Mystory@Anushka Upasak

Basically, I wanted to take Science as my stream for class XI – XII and wanted to pursue medical as my professional life but due to some genuine problems I could not and later on settled with taking up Commerce. But I don’t regret my decisions because even here I found many career options where I can make my parents feel proud.

After Board examination and results I took career counseling where I got interest in BBA and also because of the reference of my school senior who is the student of ILEAD. The reason behind choosing ILEAD is that it gave a real insight of both management and media. Here I chose BBA as my undergraduate course, because I was always interested in having all the knowledge about a business environment and ILEAD was the correct choice for me.

During my orientation, I was scared but we were given tasks which really grabbed my interest. After joining the college, I came across many business related seminars and topics and was inspired by many businessmen and businesswomen and found the interaction with them always very informative and helpful. There were opportunities to develop from the very first day of college. I being a management student not only gain knowledge about business but also on media related topics like public speaking or personality development, facing the camera and much more.

How I cracked college admission

I always used to get tensed with group discussion and personal interview rounds but during the tests I performed well and got selected.

Before the admission, on reference of my senior I went to ILEAD, Kolkata for general counseling where I got to know about the college very well and I wanted to be a part of it. I also asked few more people who were into this college to know about the college, mentors etc. They were pleased with the college and also convinced me to join this college. They also discussed about their college lives.

To crack admission in my current college, I gave an entrance exam which was of three levels like written examination which included current topics, general knowledge, aptitude test and so on; followed by GD (group discussion) and personal interview.  I always used to get tensed with group discussion and personal interview rounds but during the tests I performed well and got selected. Though I did not take any coaching classes for preparations. I just brushed up current affairs topics and general knowledge. I revised few segments for the paper also.

The other colleges I applied to were JDBI and The Bhwanipur Education Society, and mainly out of Kolkata. But after counseling and seeing college structure and knowing about it properly I also wanted to be a part of iLEAD. Now I am an ILEADer.

My college experience

At first I was always thinking how will I adjust with new faces as everything was new. As expected, as time was passing I made new friends and along with studies my college also gave an opportunity to perform or do all the extra-curriculum activities or do other diploma courses provided by the college. It was not like that if I am a management student then I will always interact with management students instead I made good friends from media department as well. Our seniors are loving people, always ready to guide and help out. Mentors or professors are always friendly. In a very short span of time I got attached to my college which an individual can never think of.

During the first week of college I got selected to compete a business fest Prayas conducted by Christ university, Bangalore. With thirteen other new freshers and two seniors that was a memorable trip. We had fun working together and the train journey was awesome. After coming back went on with regular classes and we used to attend all the classes because of friendly mentors and attendance was mandatory. I was a part of our college’s management fest Managedia as head student representative of Human Resource Round and then I played basketball for college’s sports fest Adrenaline. I participated in many competitions and even volunteered in seminars related to business world and general causes.

Extra-curricular activities which I am a part of are related to all cultural events as at present I am a council member of student council body representing cultural department, and we organise all the cultural events like – Convocation, Dandiya Night, Independence Day, Diwali Celebrations, and Prom Night etc.

My college experience till now has changed me positively, I feel more confident and presentable to the society. The college has helped in building my leadership quality and skills to keep pace with fast running environment, not only with management skills but somewhere I also developed my acting skills and did a short movie for student media department as it was their project.
ILEAD gave me recognition and motto to dream big and achieve it. I’m a proud ILEADER.
