In the interest of the students, this year, the Board has introduced option for students who have been declared failed in UP Board 12th Result to appear for the compartment examination, UP Board Secretary Divyakant Shukla.
However, the UP Board Class 12 Compartmental Exam 2020 dates have not been fixed yet. The proposal has already been sent to the state government and the dates would be announced as soon as the government gives the go-ahead, the Board officials said.
In December last year, the state government has given approval to the Board's proposal for introducing the compartment exams for UP 12th students.
Until last year, UP Board allowed students to appear for improvement exam if they fail in two subjects and in compartment exam on failing in one subject in high school board exams but compartment exam option did not exist at intermediate or Class 12 UP board exams level, the board official said in a statement.
This year, UP Board 12th result was announced late due to coronavirus outbreak which hampered the evaluation process of Class 12th answer sheets in between.
βA few of these failing students did apply for scrutiny but the count of such students was quite low,β the official added.
The need for introducing the compartment examination option at class 12 level was felt by UP Board all the more in 2019 when instead of two papers for each subject, one paper per subject was introduced in 39 subjects. This did help in reducing the exam stress on students but also made it tough for them to clear the exams. As earlier, if a student failed to perform well in one of the examination papers of the subject, they had the chance of doing well in the second paper. But since 2019 that option too ceased to exist, the official explained.
After the approval from the state government, UP Board has also decided to not denote βcompartmentβ in the mark-sheet-cum-pass certificate of such students.
This year, over 56.11 lakh students appeared in class 10 and 12 exams. Overall pass percentage for Class 12 is 74.63%. This is higher than last year when 70.2 per cent cleared the exam. Of these, 24,84,489 students sat for the exams. A total of 74.63 per cent girls have cleared the 12th board exams, while 68.88 per cent boys have successfuly passed the paper. 25,86,349 students had registered for Intermediate or Class 12 board exams this year.
