MICAT-I 2017: Analysis by MBA expert Rahul Singh

2 mins readUpdated on Dec 12, 2016 12:03 IST

MICAT Round I for 2017 admissions was held on December 11, 2016 amid technical issues. However, overall the exam was of easy to moderate difficulty. Our expert suggests 60 attempts are good.

Here's the complete analysis of MICAT - I 2017 exam by MBA expert Rahul Singh, CATKing

As I have always mentioned that attempting all questions is a must in this section, most of the students faced a tough time due to technical issues that popped up while checking the summary on the questions attempted.

Kudos to the prompt action by the MICA Team Interface for tackling these issues immediately. The section had a few time consuming questions which put some students under pressure.

Descriptive Writing was truly creative with a set of pictures - a library with colorful books, a turtle, damp room of keyboards wires taken off, and two happy friends. These images were to be used to build a story around them. I am sure the students who have been practicing well, were able to put their creativity on the paper.

The Argument Topic was a little tricky like last year. The topic this year was, “Geo Political Environment Criticism”, which definitely required some concrete argument points, truly meant to judge the analytical skills and the thought process.

There were no surprises in the Objective section. As expected, the Quantitative Ability was an easy section with simple and direct formula based questions which were doable for all students who prepared for CAT as well.

GK was completely from Marketing with lots of questions from Mergers and Acquisitions; CEO’s of top companies and Branding with match the following logo questions.

Reasoning dominated by word associations saw a couple of difficult questions but the rest were doable. Verbal continued to be one of the favorite sections of the students.

Good Attempts:

Quants: 13-15

Verbal: 17-20

Reasoning: 20-22

GK: 10-12

Overall, 60 attempts are good.

Management News and Articles

Sectional cut-offs have not been a significant criteria in MICA over the years so we expect the same unless there is something new in store this year. Let's await the scores on December 19, 2916. Until then, relax.

All the Best to the MICANS!

The aspirants who didn’t do well don’t get disheartened as you have another attempt in February 2017.

The cut-off mark for Mudra institute of communications depends upon the exam and the candidate’s category. For CAT, a percentage of 80 to 85 percent is considered safe for shortlisting. For GMAT, a score above 600 is considered good.
