My Journey at OIST, Bhopal: From Nervous Fresher to Thriving Student
After the completion of my Class 12, I took admission at Oriental Institute of Science and Technology (OIST). I chose this college due to its great reputation, the facilities, and placement opportunities provided to students. It is also considered an academically strong college.

My Time at the College
Just like every fresher, I was nervous on my first day at college. Moving to a new city to study was something I had never experienced before. Every student feels nervous when they are new in college; I faced the same situation here. But eventually, I started to engage with my classmates and made some friends along the way.
On the first day, a small introduction session was held in the classroom itself. After that, all freshers were taken for lunch, where everyone engaged and had fruitful conversations with each other. After lunch, we were taken to the huge auditorium, where a small program was held to welcome the new students. The highlights of this program were mainly the dance performance and speeches. Exploring the campus and the infrastructure was a really fun experience as well.
Here, most students in my batch are from different backgrounds. They came here from all parts of the country just to pursue their higher studies. I find everyone around me friendly and helpful. At first, everyone was just like strangers sitting in the same class as me. But eventually, all students got along with each other, resulting in long-lasting friendships.
The OIST campus is very scenic, with beautiful infrastructure and greenery everywhere. The college being huge, it was initially quite difficult for me to navigate around the campus. I often got lost while searching for the classrooms. The faculty at the college is very helpful; they always assisted me whenever I faced similar issues.
Freshers at OIST are advised to avoid interacting with seniors or even walking near their classrooms, primarily as a preventive measure against ragging. After a week at the college, the seniors organized an official freshers' party in the presence of faculty members. All the decoration was done by our seniors, and the program even included performances, including dancing, singing, and poetry. We often hear a lot of things about seniors, but in my experience, all my interactions with them have been positive. I never faced any issues while engaging with them.

Life at the Hostel
The hostel life at OIST is very interesting, to say the least. The students I stay with are like my second family now. Everyone comes from a different background here, and even after that, everyone shares at least some similar interests with each other. All of this makes my hostel life an enjoyable experience.
The Extracurricular Activities
My college life is not just limited to academics; I am also actively engaged in clubs and other extracurricular activities.
One popular event organised by our college is called “Teachakme”, which is a three-day event. The event includes various programs including fashion show, dance and singing performances, games, etc. There are also competitions such as Hackathons and E-Sports which are organised by the college. Right now, I am enjoying my college life. There is a long way to go, and I believe I am ready for whatever the future brings. Learning, growing, and making great memories is what college life is all about.
