B.Tech. in Civil Engineering - Batch of 2014

BIET is a college for those who want to learn new things.
Placements: I am a pass out student of BIET. I am glad to share my college experience. In our course, i.e., from the civil engineering department, about 30 students got placed in the year 2014. Companies like JMC, TCS, Pinnacle, Redvise, were the recruiters at that time. Top roles were offered by JMC and TCS. The highest salary package offered is about 4 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is about 2 LPA. During our time, i.e., in the year 2014, about 30 students from the civil engineering department got internships. Overall the placement rate in our course is about 67%.
Infrastructure: Excellent facilities and infrastructure are available in our college. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled and also the hostels. There is a digital library rooms which is for accessing international journals. There is another library for reading books, which is fully air-conditioned. There is a separate hostel for boys and girls. Senior boys hostel and junior boys hostel are also separate. Hostel like East 1, East 2, West 1, West 2 are for the senior students. Each hostel has separate canteen facilities, and the quality of the food served is good. The college has its own ambulance and buses. Each year, annual sports are organised by the college and games like high jump, long jump, table tennis, short-put, etc., are included.
Faculty: Our department teachers are highly qualified and very helpful on the campus as well as outside the campus. They are from IITs. Each year, the department organises an excursion, and they also conduct an industrial tour. From the tour, we can gather more knowledge for job purposes.
Other: Since my childhood, I wanted to become a civil engineer because I want to know and build structures. The best thing about our course is that after the practical experiment, every step is believable. The syllabus should be more practical rather than theoretical. Every year college fest is organised by 3rd-year students of each department in March-April. At our time, the famous band Uniform Velocity performed awesomely. The college provides scholarships like half fees and full fees concession, especially to the financially poor and meritorious students. The college and the department organise seminars on different topics which are helpful for us.

I have spent four years here, so I have many memorable moments.
Placements: Almost 50% of the students got placed in ou course. The highest salary offered is of Rs. 2.4 LPA and the lowest salary offered is 1.2 LPA. The average salary package offered is 1.8 LPA. Mahindra, Damodar Ropeways & Infra Ltd and Tata Consultancy services are top recruiting companies of our college. The role offered was of site engineer. The highest salary package offered was 1.8 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered is of 1.08 LPA. Almost 10% of the students got an internship at Gammon India and Simplex company.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is vast. There are 3 segments of 4 of floors each. Wi-Fi, laboratory and library are provided. Classrooms are good with proper ventilation. Hostel, medical and canteen facilities are available. Sports like cricket, football, table tennis are played in our college ground and in the common room of our canteen.
Faculty: Teachers in our college are helpful, qualified and friendly. M.Tech courses of several streams are available, like mechanical engineering. All B.Tech courses of all the streams are available. I am from civil engineering stream. The course curriculum is relevant to make student industry-ready.
Other: I chose civil engineering because I like this subject and because of the huge stock of laboratory instruments of our college. Some survey instruments are needed for the survey.

A short comeback view from my memory of my college.
Placements: About 25% of students placed in 2014 from civil engineering department and overall 60% student placed in the year 2014. salary offered by various company in the range 20000-40000 per month basis. Recruiter like JMC, Pinnacle, IBM, TCS, Mahindra recruits many of us. The highest salary GOT from IBM about 480000 per annum package. And the lowest by 240000 per annum. My friends got placed in JMC and Pinnacle and till now they carry over the job with a good salary.
Infrastructure: Our classrooms are well conditioned and a gallery room for presentation. There is a digital library room as well as reading room besides the library with AC. Whole campus is Wi-Fi enabled and the internet speed is good. The hostel campus is also Wi-Fi enabled. There is a girls hostel and two boys hostel, one for 1st years students and the other is for senior boys. Senior boys hostel is divided into parts like east 1, west 2, etc. There is a canteen attached to each hostel and also a staff canteen is there besides the main college building. There is a cafeteria inside the college roof. Where chess and table tennis are there. There is a ground for annual sports meet like football, cricket, etc.
Faculty: Our civil engineering department is best in the college, and our laboratories are well-equipped with machines. Our faculty members are very good and well educated. They are helpful behind the college hours also. Our college arranged industrial visits every year and also arranged entrepreneurship development programme.
Other: I like the role of a civil engineer and inspired from my uncle and after chosen this course, I think I took the right decision. There is an annual fest which is organised by 3rd years students of our college during March-May. From our time, the famous band Faridkot, Uniform velocity are performed too well in the college ground. College is provided a scholarship for economically weak students a full tuition fess or half fees reduction scholarships. College is also attached with an organisation which is organised by the students of BIET which is called SPARSH.

Best college for learning but not expect placements.
Placements: At recent times Placement record is really bad, college management and placement coordinated is responsible for that. There are only 5% students got placed. In past (3 years ago) there were some tieup with big Companies like Tcs, Larson and Toubro. But in recent days no big Companies have done a single placement.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is quite good. Classrooms are good but not well decorated, there were projectors in every classroom. The quality of labs are very good. The food quality of canteen is so bad. The hostel rooms are quite good and the total campus is eco friendly.
Faculty: Teachers are always helpful. They do their best and they are qualified and they have a vast knowledge about depermental subject. Teaching quality is not bad. Normally the verbal conversation and read and write method followed in teaching but sometimes teachers use projector to elaborate the subject concept. The student-faculty ratio is 30:1. I didn't get any industry exposure.

Absolutely dissatisfied because of the placement.
Placements: There is a very poor communication of placement. Companies don't want to come, and I don't know why. However, we noticed that day by day, the placement condition is decreasing. In our batch, approximately 10 percent students are placed. In our previous batch, less than 30% students were placed. There is a placement cell.
Infrastructure: Medical facilities, sports and game facilities, everything is done at an appropriate time. College's labs and classrooms and faculty members are too good. There are 4 boys and 2 girls hostels. In every hostel, they have canteen facilities, but the food quality of the canteen is too bad.
Faculty: The maximum faculty members are too good. They behave as a teacher, guider, parent and friend too. Their behaviour is too good. They took classes regularly. The behaviour of many faculty members in the class is too bad. You may say that they are not able to take any classes.
Other: Fest, events, everything is held at an appropriate time. Scholarship facilities are also available here.

Degradation of a well known college, in Bengal.
Placements: The college is a government-aided private college. Though in the past few years the college gave some good (kind of) placement opportunities, nowadays the quality and the quantity of placement has drastically degraded. The students used to get to know from our seniors that Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Simplex comes to the college for placements, but as our time came, we came to know that a company is going to visit the college whose name we never heard before. Just one on-campusing and 2/3 pool campusing conducted in the college, hence 10-12 students got a job out of about 400 students. It's quite a lot of disappointment for the students.
Infrastructure: Everyone must admit it that the college has a huge campus area and good infrastructure as well. The college has all the laboratories, workshops along with all the machines and apparatus as well and they all are in good condition. But, one thing I must say, the canteen doesn't provide good quality food to the students, and that's a common issue for all the students. The gym instruments are not sufficient at all. The hostel surroundings are quite bad in condition to live. The hostels and the drains are not cleaned regularly, though we pay for it (Maintenance Fee). The college says its a campus with Wi-Fi facility, but actually, it's not as we couldn't even connect from our hostel rooms.
Faculty: The faculty are a matter of regret that the quality of our faculty members has degraded a lot in the past few years. However, the faculty are very interactive and helpful, but still, good quality faculty members are leaving on a regular basis due to some internal clash between the faculty members or depending upon the degrading condition of the college. The students didn't hear of industry exposure, and we don't even know what that is.
Other: There is no promotion of cultural activity in the college. Even the students organize the cultural fest on their own, and the college authority helps a little bit. The college has no scholarship system. The students from SC, ST, OBC or Minority caste get a scholarship, but that's not from the college, but the state government. The surroundings are very dirty and not cleaned up regularly. The garbage found here and there in the college. The drains are not clean enough to pass water, and that's why they became a mosquito breeding company.

Helping nature of BIET makes the student proud to feel a BIETian.
Placements: Placement status was good but not too much (about 60 %) in the academic year 2014-2015 as some students got placements with a lower package. Placement status in the academic year 2010-2011 was outstanding (about 100%). Many of them got placed in more than one company with a higher package. There was a drawback in the academic year 2014-2015 as few students got placed in fake companies.
Infrastructure: The institute has a fully Wi-Fi enabled campus with high-speed internet facilities. The most important one is laboratory facilities which are very good compared to other private institutes in West Bengal. Classroom and teaching facilities were very good in Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical department with experienced teaching professionals. Sports facilities were also good but not too much.
Faculty: Teaching professionals were very good, with a cool mind and were interested in discussion with students. Most of them were helpful in nature. Few professors were highly qualified and experienced with a good mind in sharing thoughts with students. They were also very helpful in discussion outside the classroom as well as the campus.
