What are the WBJEE 2026 General Eligibility Criteria?
Some important general WBJEE eligibility criteria given below. Since official criteria for current academic year has not been released yet, candidates can check previous year's eligibility for reference.
- Citizenship: Candidates should be citizens of India or OCI (subject to approval of the Competent Authority). OCI candidates will be eligible for only Unreserved seats in All India Quota.
- Academic Qualificaiton: Should have passed 12th standard (or its equivalent) qualifying examination before 2025 or appearing in 2025.
- Age Limit: The lower age limit is 17 years as of December 31 of admission year. There is no upper age limit. However, for Marine Engineering admission, upper age limit is 25 years as of December 31 of admission year.
WBJEE Eligibility Criteria 2026: Academic Qualifications
Detailed academic qualifications required to be eligible for WBJEE 2026 admissions are given below.
- Candidates should have passed 10+2th class (or equivalent) qualifying examination with Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry/Computer Science/Electronics/Information Technology/Biology/Informatics Practices/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational Subject/Agriculture/Engineering Graphics/Business Studies/Entrepreneurship.
- Should have secured a minimum of 45 percent marks (40 percent marks for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/PwD candidates) as an aggregate of three subjects in qualifying exam.
- Must have passed in English in 10+2th class (or equivalent) exam with at least 30% marks.
- Qualifying examination board should be recognized by Central or State Government.

WBJEE 2026 Eligibility Criteria - Domicile Criteria
Candidates who meet given criteria will be considered as domicile.
a) Residing in the state continuously for a minimum of 10 years as of December 31 of the admission year,or
b) Whose parent(s) is/are a permanent resident of the state with a permanent address
WBJEE exam is open to candidates from all over the country. However, West Bengal Residential/Domicile requirement is applicable for admission to colleges in West Bengal as well as for admission under the reserved category quota.
West Bengal Residential/Domicile requirement is also applicable for candidates applying to the Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) scheme through WBJEE.
Candidates will have to produce their domicile certificates at the time of WBJEE 2026 counselling. If the certificate is found invalid, their candidature will be cancelled.
Students have to check the official WBJEE eligibility criteria to know if they eligible or not for the admission process. All students have to be of Indian nationality and should atleast 17 years old in the admission year. In the 12th standard qualifying exam, the students should have scored minimum 45% (40% for reserved category) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. They should have also individually passed in these subjects. At least 30 marks should have been scored in English.
After the seats are allotted, students will have to pay seat acceptance fee of INR 5000 online to download allotment letter. Next, they will have to report to their respective college for document verification and tuition fee payment.
WBJEE 2026 Seat Reservation
As per the Government of India, the following categories will be considered for admission in West Bengal through WBJEE:

Availability of reserved seats shall be restricted to students domiciled in West Bengal only. Reserved category students have to produce a valid certificate issued by the government for admission under the reserved seats.
Seats for admission through JEE Main 2026
Candidates seeking admission to undergraduate engineering courses offered at self-financed engineering and technology colleges in West Bengal can also apply for admission with JEE Main scores. 10-50% of seats are available for candidates applying for admission through JEE Main. However, allotment of seats to such candidates will be done through the WBJEE counselling process only.
For WBJEE admissions, there is an age limit. Students have to be minimum 17 years old during the admission year. There is no upper age limit. However, for Marine Engineering course, there is an upper age limit of 25 years.
If two or more students have the same WBJEE score, then the tie breaking guidelines will be followed. The student who has an lesser negative marks in PCM will be given a higher rank. If the tie is not broken, the step-by-step guideline will be followed.
The age of the students will be used as the final guideline, if the authorities are not able to break the tie. If the students have the same WBJEE score and the tie breaking guidelines is unable to settle the rank, then the older student will be given a higher rank.
Seats for admission through NATA 2026
Candidates seeking admission to undergraduate architecture courses offered at colleges in West Bengal will have to appear for NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture). However, the allotment of seats to such candidates will be done through the WBJEE counselling process only.
How many attempts are allowed for WBJEE?
There is no limit to appear for WBJEE, but students need to follow age criteria. Students must be 17 years as of December 21. Also, there is no upper age limit. Those students who wish to get admission to marine engineering must have attained the age of 17 as of December 31 and not exceed 25 years.

Authorities will release WBJEE answer key after the completion of exam. First, the authorities will release provisional answer key, where students can raise objections. Based on accuracy and objections submitted by students, the conducting body will announce WBJEE result.

If the students appear for just WBJEE Paper 1 (Mathematics), they will not be allotted any rank. These students will not be considered eligible for admissions. For allotment, the students will have to attempt both Paper 1 and 2 of WBJEE.
