WBJEE 2026 Eligibility Criteria: West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) will release WBJEE eligibility criteria 2026 online at wbjeeb.nic.in/wbjee. Before registration, candidates should check official criteria before WBJEE 2026 registration, so that they know their eligibility for admission. If candidates are not eligible, they will not be considered for WBJEE 2026 admission. What are the WBJEE 2026 General Eligibility Criteria?

Some important general WBJEE eligibility criteria given below. Since official criteria for current academic year has not been released yet, candidates can check previous year's eligibility for reference.

  • Citizenship: Candidates should be citizens of India or OCI (subject to approval of the Competent Authority). OCI candidates will be eligible for only Unreserved seats in All India Quota.
  • Academic Qualificaiton: Should have passed 12th standard (or its equivalent) qualifying examination before 2025 or appearing in 2025. 
  • Age Limit: The lower age limit is 17 years as of December 31 of admission year. There is no upper age limit. However, for Marine Engineering admission, upper age limit is 25 years as of December 31 of admission year.

WBJEE Eligibility Criteria 2026: Academic Qualifications

Detailed academic qualifications required to be eligible for WBJEE 2026 admissions are given below.

  • Candidates should have passed 10+2th class (or equivalent) qualifying examination with Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry/Computer Science/Electronics/Information Technology/Biology/Informatics Practices/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational Subject/Agriculture/Engineering Graphics/Business Studies/Entrepreneurship.
  • Should have secured a minimum of 45 percent marks (40 percent marks for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/PwD candidates) as an aggregate of three subjects in qualifying exam.
  • Must have passed in English in 10+2th class (or equivalent) exam with at least 30% marks.
  • Qualifying examination board should be recognized by Central or State Government.

  • Candidates must have passed the 10+2th standard (or equivalent) qualifying exam with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks in both theory and practice for all three subjects.
  • Should have obtained at least 45% marks (40% in the case of SC, ST, OBC, PwD) in all three subjects taken together.
  • Must have passed the English subject in the 12th qualifying exam with at least 30% marks.
  • The qualifying examination Board must be recognized by the Central or State Government.

BTech in Marine Engineering

  • Should have passed 10+2th standard (or equivalent) qualifying examination with 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Maths taken together with individual pass marks (both in theory and practical) in each of the subjects
  • Minimum of 50% marks in English as a subject in either in ‘10’ standard or in ‘10+2’ standard.

BArch

  • Must have passed 10+2th standard (or equivalent) qualifying exam with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and also secured 50% aggregate marks.
  • Must have appeared for NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) conducted by the Council of Architecture, New Delhi

WBJEE 2026 Eligibility Criteria: Institute-specific admission criteria

Pass ‘10+2’ or equivalent Examination with at least 60% (45% for Reserve Category Students) marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects. Candidates should have also secured 60% marks in Mathematics (45% for reserved category).

Individual pass marks (both in theory & practical wherever applicable) in each of the subjects and with at least 30% marks in English.

Candidates should have secured 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and 50% marks in aggregate of the 10+2th standard (or qualifying) exam (37% for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/PwD candidates)

Should have obtained at least 50% marks (40% for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B and PwD category) in the four subjects taken together.

Candidates should have secured a minimum of 45% marks in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/Computer Science, with individual pass marks through regular class mode.

Should have secured a minimum of 60% marks in both the 10th and 10+2th standard examinations from any recognized board.

WBJEE 2026 Eligibility Criteria - Domicile Criteria

Candidates who meet given criteria will be considered as domicile.

a) Residing in the state continuously for a minimum of 10 years as of December 31 of the admission year,or

b) Whose parent(s) is/are a permanent resident of the state with a permanent address

WBJEE exam is open to candidates from all over the country. However, West Bengal Residential/Domicile requirement is applicable for admission to colleges in West Bengal as well as for admission under the reserved category quota.  

West Bengal Residential/Domicile requirement is also applicable for candidates applying to the Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) scheme through WBJEE.

Candidates will have to produce their domicile certificates at the time of WBJEE 2026 counselling. If the certificate is found invalid, their candidature will be cancelled. 

Q:   Will I be allotted a rank if I appear for just WBJEE Paper 1?
A:

If the students appear for just WBJEE Paper 1 (Mathematics), they will not be allotted any rank. These students will not be considered eligible for admissions. For allotment, the students will have to attempt both Paper 1 and 2 of WBJEE.

Q:   What is the WBJEE eligibility criteria?
A:

Students have to check the official WBJEE eligibility criteria to know if they eligible or not for the admission process. All students have to be of Indian nationality and should atleast 17 years old in the admission year. In the 12th standard qualifying exam, the students should have scored minimum 45% (40% for reserved category) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. They should have also individually passed in these subjects. At least 30 marks should have been scored in English.

Q:   What after WBJEE seat allotment?
A:

After the seats are allotted, students will have to pay seat acceptance fee of INR 5000 online to download allotment letter. Next, they will have to report to their respective college for document verification and tuition fee payment.

WBJEE 2026 Seat Reservation

As per the Government of India, the following categories will be considered for admission in West Bengal through WBJEE:

Availability of reserved seats shall be restricted to students domiciled in West Bengal only. Reserved category students have to produce a valid certificate issued by the government for admission under the reserved seats.

Seats for admission through JEE Main 2026

Candidates seeking admission to undergraduate engineering courses offered at self-financed engineering and technology colleges in West Bengal can also apply for admission with JEE Main scores. 10-50% of seats are available for candidates applying for admission through JEE Main. However, allotment of seats to such candidates will be done through the WBJEE counselling process only.

Q:   Is there an age limit for WBJEE?
A:

For WBJEE admissions, there is an age limit. Students have to be minimum 17 years old during the admission year. There is no upper age limit. However, for Marine Engineering course, there is an upper age limit of 25 years.

Q:   If there is a tie in the WBJEE score, which candidate will be given first preference?
A:

If two or more students have the same WBJEE score, then the tie breaking guidelines will be followed. The student who has an lesser negative marks in PCM will be given a higher rank. If the tie is not broken, the step-by-step guideline will be followed.

Q:   Are older candidates preferred for WBJEE admission in case of a tie?
A:

The age of the students will be used as the final guideline, if the authorities are not able to break the tie. If the students have the same WBJEE score and the tie breaking guidelines is unable to settle the rank, then the older student will be given a higher rank.

Seats for admission through NATA 2026

Candidates seeking admission to undergraduate architecture courses offered at colleges in West Bengal will have to appear for NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture). However, the allotment of seats to such candidates will be done through the WBJEE counselling process only.

How many attempts are allowed for WBJEE?

There is no limit to appear for WBJEE, but students need to follow age criteria. Students must be 17 years as of December 21. Also, there is no upper age limit. Those students who wish to get admission to marine engineering must have attained the age of 17 as of December 31 and not exceed 25 years.

Sister Nivedita University cutoff 2025 for admission to the BTech course has been released for differnt branches. In 2025, the WBJEE last round closing ranks were between 33616 and 98554 for the students belonging to the General AI quota.
