BMS College for Women is a private institute established in 1964 by the visionary Late Sri. B.S. Narayan in memory of his father Late Sri B.M. Sreenivasaiah in order to impart quality education for women. It is an affiliated college of the Bengaluru City University that works under the BMS Educational Trust. It has also been accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC in the years 2004, 2009 and 2016. The College is recognised by UGC as a Mentor Institution under the Paramarsh Scheme. To encourage students to get admission, BMS College for Women offers Endowment Prizes and Scholarships offered by BMS Educational Trust which are as follows:
- Sanchi Honnamma Scholarship: This scholarship is sponsored by the Department of Collegiate Education, Karnataka and is awarded to meritorious female students studying in government or private arts and commerce institutions. The amount awarded is INR 2000 per year and the selection is based on merit and the number of applications received.
- Sri B.S. Narayan Memorial Scholarship: It is awarded to poor and meritorious students in the month of March. The selection of the students for the award is made by the selection committee.
- Endowment Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to meritorious students based on their merit in all three years. The students are selected from each stream yearly.
- GSB Scholarship: This scholarship is offered by the Goud Saraswat Brahman Scholarship League to needy and deserving students of the Saraswat group.
- GOI Post Metric Scholarship for SC Students: Under this central government scheme, SC students whose family’s total income does not exceed INR 8 LPA and pursuing studies post-matric are eligible to apply. The awarding of the scholarship is based on merit and offers INR 2 LPA towards tuition fees, INR 3000 monthly towards living expenses and INR 5000 monthly towards books and stationery. A one-time amount for buying a laptop for INR 45000 is also provided.
- Central Wakf Council Scholarship: This scholarship is sponsored by the Wakf Council under the Ministry of Minority Affairs. Students can get a yearly scholarship of Rs.8000 for pursuing studies post-matric. Students should have secured a minimum of 50% in the previous qualifying exam to be eligible for this scholarship.
- Defence Scholarship or Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS): Wards or widows of deceased/ ex-service personnel from armed forces, para-military forces or Railway Protection Force are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The scholarship amount is INR 3000 per month for girl students.
- Sir. C.V. Raman Scholarship: This scholarship is sponsored by the Department of Collegiate Education, Karnataka and is awarded to meritorious female students studying in government or private science institutions. The amount awarded is INR 5000 per year and the selection is based on merit and the number of applications received.
- Post Metric Scholarship for Backward Classes and Minority Students: This central government-sponsored scholarship is awarded to students of other backward classes, pursuing their post-matric studies, whose family’s annual income is not more than INR 1 LPA. The scholarship amount is INR 350 to INR 160 for day’s scholars per month with the annual amount for study tour, thesis typing and printing charges and book allowances.
