Good academics, and peaceful atmosphere.
Placements: 78.58 percent students got placed and others went to higher studies, and others went to government UPSC job preparation. One got into IAM. The highest package is around 14 LPA and the lowest is about 5 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Tata Elxsi, TCS, Qburst, UST Global, etc. 70 percent of students got internships in various companies like CDAC, Infosys, etc. The students get all major positions.
Infrastructure: Actually, the infrastructure is comparatively less, that's the only downgrade. But the college offers all the necessary infrastructure: Wi-Fi, labs, classrooms, libraries, everything. Actually, the college lacks a men's hostel; no men's hostel is there due to land shortage, but it has a ladies' hostel. Sports and games coaches are there, but it lacks a ground. Mess and canteens are good.
Faculty: Academically, it's the best college. The teachers are well-qualified and determined. They complete the syllabus before the exam. They are very senior faculty members. The course curriculum is relevant and it makes the student industry-ready because it follows project-based learning. Due to good teaching, my semester exams are easy, and the pass percentage is above 90 percent.
Other: I choose this course because it is so relevant in this IT industry boom period, the AI boom period. Nothing to improve, everything is fine. Events, fests are soo good, the campus crowd are good. We get a good connectivity with various people. You know, the college is in the heart of the capital of Kerala, Trivandrum, soo its amazing. Campus surroundings are soo good, clean. So many extra-curricular activities are there.

College is not that bad, not that great.
Placements: Around 70 percent of the ECE department received placement offers in 2025. Most of the companies are from the IT sector, like ThoughtSpot, Maya Labs, Quantiphi, Infosys, Cognizant, UST, etc. Some core companies are also present, like Schneider Electric, Zia Semiconductors, Mahindra Solarize, etc. Some went for higher studies and academic roles at institutions like IISC.
Infrastructure: Classrooms and labs are pretty good, but some components used in labs are very old. Free Wi-Fi is available on campus and in the hostel. Only a ladies' hostel is provided by the college, and no hostel facility for boys. I would say the college library is average or below average because it's a tiny library, but a decent amount of books are available. Lastly, the most disappointing part is the lack of a ground in the college.
Faculty: The teachers are well qualified, but the teaching quality may vary from person to person. Most of them cover the entire syllabus and give regular notes and conduct regular assignments and projects, but some faculty members don't put too much work pressure on the students. The course curriculum is pretty good, but industrial exposure and relevant skills have to be acquired by other methods, like internships and training. Semester exams aren't extremely hard, decent marks can be attained by not-so-bad preparation. The college has a pass percentage of 73 percent.
Other: GEC Barton Hill is one of the best colleges in Kerala for Electronics and Communication Engineering. You will get a pretty hard-working batch of mates and have a lot of good active clubs/societies. There are opportunities for improving yourself as a whole, but don't expect spoon-feeding. You will have to work on your skills and goals and make use of the club activities. The campus is located in Trivandrum City and is easily accessible. The college campus is not that big, and lacks a proper ground. Events and fests occur at just above average rate.

Excellent faculty, poor infrastructure, no events, fests, and extra activities. Average placement.
Placements: We have a very average placement. The packages range from 4 to 9 LPA, usually. Most are around 4-5 LPA. Not the best, as it feels low considering the efforts students put in. The main role that is hired is an associate engineer. Most companies look for good programming skills and communication.
Infrastructure: Very poor infrastructure. The college is smaller than a school. They only have a ladies' hostel. No means hostel, and there won't be one as there is no more area to expand. Labs have old computers that are difficult to work with, as they are really slow. It is a very small college, so there is not much space for anything. No playground, too.
Faculty: Teachers are the best. Everyone is really helpful and knows their domain really well. Teachers are really friendly and really care about students. The course curriculum is trash, as in the first two semesters, students from every branch have to learn the same thing, whether it's relevant or not. And the syllabus is also very outdated. No real application-level skills are taught.
Other: The course is average. But still couldn't be really better and useful. The only good thing about the course is that the core subjects are relevant. I wish that the syllabus would be updated to the new technology. No events, no fest, very poor campus crowd. Very small campus, so no place for any activities.

True Beauty of GEC Barton Hill.
Placements: In the academic year 2023-2024, we were able to bring 69 companies to our campus, which is significantly greater than previous years. This includes public sector companies like Bharat Electronics LTD (BEL), which came to our campus for the first time. The highest package for B.Tech students was offered by BEL (11.6 LPA) and for M.Tech students, it was offered by Federal Bank (12 LPA). The number of students placed was 132. There were students who got multiple job offers (up to 6). The average LPA offered by companies was about 4.5 LPA. Tata Elxsi was the largest recruiter, with 44 students placed.
Infrastructure: We have labs for various purposes and digital classrooms with projectors in each and every class. The college provides free Wi-Fi to students and also allocates space for various class activities. There are many technical and non-technical clubs and societies in the college.
Faculty: The teachers and other faculty members are really supportive of anything you want to do in the college, whether it may be technical or non-technical, especially the IT department faculty. If we consider pass percentage, our IT department has the highest pass percentage in KTU.
Other: Since Information Technology is a field of rapid development, I decided to take the first step in exploring it, which led me to the best college that offers IT in Kerala under KTU.

College facilities and management.
Placements: Students can enroll themselves for placements starting from the 4th year. Companies that come for placements are mainly in the IT field. Placements for civil and mechanical are less than other departments. The percentage of students getting placed is less than 50%.
Infrastructure: The whole college does not have a ground for students. Construction work in undergoing, leading to a lot of dust around the area. There is no boys' hostel. Classrooms are spacious and have good facilities. Better canteen facility can be provided.
Faculty: We have effecient teachers and well-qualified faculty. Labs are clean and all safety measures are taken while conducting experiments. Pass percentage for semester exams is around 67%-75%. Bad quality in evaluating semester exams and evaluation is not done properly.
Other: The college crowd is so good. There are so many events happening. Societies are very active.

A good government college that is well accessible and in the heart of the city.
Placements: Most of the placements were either for software companies as assistant engineers or as marketing and sales executives, but core companies like Visteon, BEL, and Tata Elxsi had also come. Also edutech and banking companies came for campus placements.
Infrastructure: I was a day scholar. So I don't know about hostels. But there's college Wi-Fi, a technical library, a canteen, and also a store to get general-purpose items and snacks/tea/coffee/drinks. Labs are okay. Classrooms are good, with few classrooms having TVs. A seminar hall is also there.
Faculty: Most of the faculty were really helpful and completed the entire syllabus; if they couldn't, it was because of the shorter duration of semesters in academic calendars beyond their control. The curriculum is almost relevant, and semester exams are moderate to easy most of the time.
Other: Technical societies like IEEE, CSI, ASME, and ISTE are really active, even at regional and global levels. Many project opportunities with well-established organizations also present from time to time.
