IIM Shillong Postgraduate Programme in Management (PGPM) leads to an MBA degree. This two-year course is offered in a full-time mode. The selection process of IIM Shillong for MBA consists of the following steps:
- CAT/GMAT: The first step is to take the CAT or GMAT. The CAT is a standardized test that is required for admission to all IIMs. The GMAT is an alternative test that can be taken instead of the CAT.
- Shortlisting: Based on the CAT/GMAT score, the IIM Shillong shortlists candidates for the next round of the selection process.
- Personal Interview (PI): The PI is a one-on-one interview with a panel of faculty members. The PI is used to assess the candidate's communication skills, personality, and fit for the MBA program.
- Group Discussion (GD): The GD is a group discussion with other candidates. The GD is used to assess the candidate's communication skills, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Decision: Based on the PI, GD, and CAT/GMAT score, the IIM Shillong makes a decision on whether to admit the candidate.
- The selection process of IIM Shillong is competitive. The average CAT score for admitted students is around 90 percentile. The GMAT score requirement is also high.
IIM Shillong process of shortlisting candidates for GDPI is independent of those of other IIMs. IIM Shillong sends an intimation mail to the registered email of the shortlisted candidates. The Candidates are required to fill out the interview form and upload the same on the Admission Portal of IIM Shillong.
IIM Shillong, then sends GD/PI call letters to only those candidates who have filled the interview form correctly.
IIM Shillong does not send any intimation to those candidates who are not shortlisted, or who haven't filled the interview form correctly within the stipulated time.
Based on the performance of the candidate in GDPI, a merit list for final admission offers is prepared. IIM Shillong also prepares a waitlist, according to the ranks of the candidate, for admission in case any candidate do not accept the admission offer.
Candidates living abroad or who could not appear for CAT because their place of residence was out of India can apply to IIM Shillong MBA programme using their GMAT scores.

IIM Shillong MBA Admission 2025: How to Apply?
For the IIM Shillong MBA admission, candidates need to register for the CAT exam. The eligible candidates can go to the CAT website (iimcat.ac.in) to apply. IIM Shillong admission process for this PG course is carried out in two phases. In the first phase, the applicants are shortlisted based on CAT percentile for group discussion and personal interview round. Selected candidates go to the second phase, in which, the final merit list is prepared. It is made as per candidates academic profile, work experience, CAT percentile, etc. Once the final admission offers are issued, candidates have to go to the IIM Shillong campus to register and complete the admission formalities.
