In 2022 and 2021, the last round closing ranks stood at 2735 and 974, respectively for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) for All India General category students. The cutoff is high in IMS-BHU as it ranked the 5 best medical colleges in India.

 Institute of Medical Sciences BHU accepts admission based on national entrance exams. The institute accepts national entrance exams such as NEET, CUET, and others. IMS BHU admission requires a minimum aggregate of 50% in Class 12  (PCB). Furthermore, they must qualify NEET UG for their category that is, OBC/ General/ EWS. 

The reservation policy for NEET counselling is as per the landmark judgement passed by the Supreme Court of India in 2021, here would be 27 per cent OBC quota in NEET (Non-Creamy Layer) and 10 per cent NEET reservation for EWS in 15 per cent Under Graduate (UG) All India Quota seats (MBBS/BDS) (contributed by the State/UTs to the Central Pool). The Institute of Medical Sciences is one of the six institutes of Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India. There are a very limited number of seats available for MD at IMS BHU. Only a total of 168 seats are available for MD and MS programs, and in which 5 seats are reserved, for international students. It comprises three faculties: the Faculty of Medicine, Dental Sciences, and Ayurveda.

Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), BHU, offers a four-year BSc in Nursing in the full-time mode. To secure a BSc seat at the institute, candidates must appear for the accepted entrance exam, i.e. NEET UG. To be eligible to sit for the exam, candidates must meet the requirements listed below:

• Candidates must have completed class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB)
• Candidates must have secured at least 50% in Class 12 (For the General category)
• Candidates must be at least 17 years old, with a maximum age of 25 years

NEET UG is the accepted entrance exam for BSc admission at IMS BHU. The exam is conducted once every year by the National Testing Agency. The exam dates vary yearly. It is usually conducted in May.

NEET UG is the accepted entrance exam for BDS admission at IMS BHU. It is a national-level medical entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Every year, NTA conducts the exam usually on the first Sunday of May. The exact exam dates vary from year to year. In 2025, the NEET 2025 exam has already taken place. The application process for the same was conducted between Feb and Mar. Eligible candidates can visit the official NEET UG (NTA) website to learn about other important dates.

Institute of Medical Sciences BHU UG Diploma admission is granted to applicants who fulfil the preset eligibility criteria. To be eligible for admission, candidates fulfil the following IMS BHU UG Diploma eligibility requiements:

• They must have passed Class 12 with Science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, & Biology) and English
• They must have scored at least 50% in Class 12
• Their age must be at least 17 years and not more than 25 years as of the year of admission

BDS admission at Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU is subject to the fulfillment of the NEET UG eligibility criteria. To be eligible to sit for the NEET UG exam, candidates must have passed Class 12, with an aggregate of at least 50% and English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as compulsory subjects. Applicable relaxation in the eligibility criteria may be provided to SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates. Additionally, candidates must complete the age of 17 years on or before Dec 31 of the year of admission and should be medically fit.
