JIPMER Ph.D. Highlights 2025
Candidates possessing a master's degree (distance learning) shall not be eligible to apply for PhD. The eligibility and more details of the course is given below:

The selection criteria vary from one course to another. While some courses like MBBS require valid scores in NEET-UG and other courses like BSc and MSc, the institute conducts its entrance exam. For admission to the flagship MBBS programme, candidates have to appear for the NEET-UG exam. Candidates having valid scores/ rank in NEET-UG can then apply through the JIPMER Puducherry official website followed by the counselling round conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
JIPMER Puducherry offers MBBS course at UG level and MD/MS at PG level. It also offers DM/MCh at super-speciality level. PhD and Fellowship courses are also provided by the Institute. JIPMER Puducherry is a highly competitive exam, but it is easier than national-level medical entrance exams like NEET and AIIMS. However, because of the huge number of students competing for only 200 seats, it is difficult to get admission in JIPMER. The acceptance rate of JIPMER is 0.1%. The exam paper has 10 questions from the English language and 10 from logical reasoning. The JIPMER syllabus is based on the Tamil Nadu state board syllabus, so it’s quite easy for CBSE students but the topics that are only a part of the Tamil Nadu state board need to be studied. The exam is easier than NEET and AIIMS, but it is still a difficult exam. The cutoff marks and ranks can vary each year based on the number of applicants and the difficulty level of the exam.
Indeed, JIPMER holds entrance exams for its courses, covering UG, PG, Diploma, and certificate programs. Starting from 2023, MBBS admissions follow NEET with JIPMER's counseling. Meanwhile, other courses maintain JIPMER's entrance exams, and details are on their official website.
