The selection criteria vary from one course to another. While some courses like MBBS require valid scores in NEET-UG and other courses like BSc and MSc, the institute conducts its entrance exam. For admission to the flagship MBBS programme, candidates have to appear for the NEET-UG exam. Candidates having valid scores/ rank in NEET-UG can then apply through the JIPMER Puducherry official website followed by the counselling round conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

Yes, the student can get into JIPMER with 75% in 10th and 80% in 12th. JIPMER accepts NEET UG scores for MBBS admission, and doesn't consider 10th and 12th scores if the NEET UG is qualified. However, students need to qualify the eligibility criteria for NEET UG, before filling of the NEET UG examination form. The NEET UG eligibility in respect of 10th and 12th marks is different for different categories of candidates. The Minimum aggregate in the qualifying examination (PCB) is 50 percent for the General category, 45 percent for General PWD and 40 percent for SC/ ST/ OBC/ Reserved-PWD. JIPMER Puducherry is a highly competitive exam, but it is easier than national-level medical entrance exams like NEET and AIIMS. However, because of the huge number of students competing for only 200 seats, it is difficult to get admission in JIPMER. The acceptance rate of JIPMER is 0.1%. The exam paper has 10 questions from the English language and 10 from logical reasoning. The JIPMER syllabus is based on the Tamil Nadu state board syllabus, so it’s quite easy for CBSE students but the topics that are only a part of the Tamil Nadu state board need to be studied. The exam is easier than NEET and AIIMS, but it is still a difficult exam. The cutoff marks and ranks can vary each year based on the number of applicants and the difficulty level of the exam.
