Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) - Batch of 2027

NIA Pune - Gateway to the Indian private insurance sector.
Placements: 100 percent placements since inception. The highest package is around 22 LPA, and the average is around 13 LPA. Top recruiters include Bajaj General, HDFC Ergo General, Value Momentum, Marsh India Brokers, Capgemini, TATA AIG, Mahindra Insurance Brokers, and many others. 100 percent of the batch gets summer internships in the general insurance, life insurance, insuretech, and brokers sectors, with almost more than 50 percent of batch getting PPO. Top roles offered are Underwriting, Claims Management, Insurance Consulting, Business Analyst, and B2B Sales.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi access throughout the campus, huge classrooms, and specialized insurance labs for research. NIA's library is vast and among the best for insurance studies. Food is really good, there is a swimming pool, sauna, gym, basketball court, and cricket/football ground. There is an on-campus clinic too.
Faculty: All the faculty are highly respected within the industry, with years of experience in the insurance sector. The course is very much in line with what is expected in the insurance sector, making students industry-ready. NIA has a trimester system, making studies a bit hectic. However, it's manageable with regular studies.
Other: I chose NIA because I wanted to enter the insurance sector, and NIA is the best gateway to enter the private insurance sector in India. There are several events throughout the year HR summit, insurance summit, and Manthan. The campus is in a very happening area of Pune, bringing insane proximity to all hotspots. There are merit scholarships available.

PGDM at NIA opens up a world of opportunities.
Placements: NIA offers 100% placements from its inception. This year, the average package offered is 10.3 LPA. The highest package offered was 29.5 LPA. 30% of the batch got PPOs during their summer internships. Core insurance roles, B.A roles and consulting roles are the major roles offered.
Infrastructure: The NIA campus is beautiful. The classrooms, hostels and library are the best in class. All necessary modern amenities are provided in the hostels. Modern sports and gym facilities are available. The mess is attached to the hostel, which serves decent food.
Faculty: At NIA, you have industry experts to make us understand the concepts in-depth. The curriculum is designed in a way that makes us industry-ready after 2 years of PGDM. We have a trisemester program, where an SIP is scheduled after 3 trisemesters. The exams are scheduled after each trisemester.
Other: The ROI at NIA is unmatchable with colleges of similar level. The insurance industry is currently known as the Sunrise industry, with a huge potential to reach out in the next decades to come, with a tremendous CAGR. A variety of events like HR Summit, Insurance Summit and Manthan are held every year to add an extra spice to your college life.

Infrastructure: The library is well maintained with real-time check-in and check-outs, resident doctors are present on the campus every day. The college has a well-equipped gym and games centre. It also has a swimming pool, sauna as add one. One of the drawbacks is that the hostel does not have a Wi-Fi but the hostel is cleaned every day by the housekeeping and proper hygiene is maintained.

There is insurance, placements and fun.
Placements: The placements are seriously good in NIA. Since its inception, no student has been unplaced. This time also, all the students got placed in zero-day (first day of placement). The average package offered for this year was approximately Rs. 7.56 lakhs and the highest offer was Rs. 11 lakhs. As this is the most coveted institute for insurance in the country, almost all the top multinational insurance companies like Tata AIG, Bajaj Allianz, SBI Life, IFFCO TOKIO came to the campus. Some insurance brokers like Mahindra brokers, Aditya Birla brokers and some top information technology companies like Accenture, IBM, Syntel, L&T Infotech also came. All of these recruiters came for 16-18 placements. A good number of students got absorbed by the companies in which they did their internships (PPO). All in all, the placement at NIA are just great.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure in NIA is simply world class. All the lecture halls are air-conditioned and are properly equipped with the state of the art equipment. We have a library which is very easily the best library in Asia for the subject matter of insurance. A gym, table tennis, swimming pool, badminton and all the other recreational facilities are there on the campus. The campus itself is one of it's kind of lush greenery of utter grace.
Faculty: Most of the faculty consists of the industry experts as the subject needs experts, All of them have at least 20 years of working experience. The in-house faculty are amazing and can be reached anytime. The guest faculty are also organized for various subjects. The course curriculum consists of both general management and the insurance subjects. The students can take up the specialisation during the second year (finance, HR, marketing). Various seminars like insurance summit give the students the exposure of interacting with the industry experts and get a feeling of the corporate life.

At par with top grade institutes and " a leader" when it comes to insurance.
Placements: Placement in our college is something which one should not worry too much as the college has a good reputation in the insurance industry and since its inception, it is giving 100% placements and that too in reputed firms across all domains i.e non-life, life, insurance brokers, IT companies and also consultancy firms. The packages and roles offered here are really good and that is because of the brand that NIA has become over the years. The highest package was 10 lacs and the average was 7.3 lacs offered to our senior batch and all were placed on the zero-day itself except for 5, who were placed later on day 1. Even the internship opportunities were really good and most of us were offered a stipend.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure-wise, it is really good. It offers almost all recreational activities and a lovely beautiful resort like a campus, an MBBS doctor is present on the campus, post office and a bank is also there on the campus. The labs and classrooms are fully air-conditioned. The library is the finest having all good quality journals, books, research papers, and magazines. One who is an avid reader will have a good time here. The quality of food is good(sometimes may not be, but that is acceptable) and the hostel rooms, as I earlier said resort-like, is maintaining that stature.
Faculty: Full-time serving faculty members along with external faculty backing from the industry and a lot of them have done their doctorates. A good student-teacher ratio is also maintained. Both theoretical and practical methods are used and you will find teaching quality of good standards. A lot of industry people come here to interact with the students on a regular basis which gives the required exposure to the students and since it is a college for training industry people, therefore, you will always find yourself surrounded by big names of the insurance industry and one can always approach them.
Other: It is a college offering course in niche domain i.e. post graduate diploma in insurance, but I must say this is the mecca for insurance knowledge and expertise one will require in the industry and of course, this is the fastest growing industry in India and also provides better job security. Also, a lot of things are done by the Indian government to develop this industry.

On Fees and Eligibility
Q:   Are CAT cut offs announced along with the CAT result?
A:

CAT cutoffs are usually not announced with the CAT result. The CAT cutoffs are also not released to the public.

They are published after a few days of the result announcement when the IIMs and other colleges start their shortlisting process. The IIMs opens their shortlisting window based on the CAT cut-offs two to three days after the result announcement. The CAT percentile of candidates shortlisted for the Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interview (PI) can be considered the cut-off for that IIM. For example, if a candidate with a CAT percentile of 99 belonging to the General category is selected for the WAT/GD-PI of IIM Calcutta, then the CAT cut-off for IIM Calcutta is 99 percentile. Only those candidates who make it to the WAT/GD-PI round of IIMs will get to know the cut-offs.

Q:   Is hostel fees mandatory for PGDM courses at National Insurance Academy, Pune?
A:

No, if a candidate chooses not to avail hostel facility by National Insurance Academy, Pune, then they are not required to pay its fees alongside PGDM fees. Such candidates will only be charged INR 12 Lacs which is total fees for PGDM in two years at National Insurance Academy, Pune.

Q:   What is sectional cutoff in CAT exam?
A:

Sectional cut-off in the CAT exam refers to the section-wise percentiles required by the candidate to make it to the Personal Interview round of the IIMs or other top MBA colleges. The sectional cut-offs are lower than the overall cut-offs of any institute. To understand better, check the table below for sectional CAT cut-offs for IIM Ahmedabad:

Q:   How many questions should I solve to get a good score in CMAT?
A:

Since every section of CMAT has 20 questions in total, solving 15 to 18 questions in each section with 80 percent accuracy is considered a good attempt in CMAT, and it can ensure a good percentile in the exam. In the GK section, about 10 to 12 correct attempts will be enough. Out of 100 questions, candidates must try to solve about 70 to 75 questions to achieve a 99 percentile. However, candidates must aim to solve a higher number of questions with maximum accuracy and minimize negative marking. To be able to achieve this target, candidates have to prepare for the CMAT in a disciplined manner. Candidates must set aside about three months to complete the CMAT syllabus, as they have to study five subjects and their numerous topics. If they have appeared for CAT, XAT, and IIFT exams, then they can complete the CMAT syllabus in one month as well. However, it is advised that candidates spend at least three months on CMAT syllabus for complete preparation.

At the time of Joining the allowed maximum age limit for General & NC-OBC is 26, for SC& ST it is 28 years. Work experience is a criteria looking by companies mostly by IT sector. But more than 4 years is not appropriate.
Q:   Is there any chance to get a call for GD/PI at NIA? Are there any BCom graduates in the institute? I have scored 79 percentile in CAT.
A:
You will be getting a GD & PI call. GD PI will be in second last week of this month most probably (21,22), and will be held at NIA Pune Campus. Batch is mix of graduates from B.Com, B.E/B.Tech, B.Sc. etc. Almost 40 % students are from commerce background. Class comprises of 50% freshers as well.
