Donika says, Placements are crucial and should be taken very seriously by each student and no one should engage themselves in any kind of misconduct that affects the university or the company in any form.

The placement drives at Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DAIICT) start from July (second week) and last up to the end of the semester or sometimes even more than that. For example, during our summer internship drive, the first company Microsoft arrived on July 1, 2019, and the last company arrived in March. Once a student gets selected in a company then they are out of the process and would not be able to register for the upcoming companies any further.

My fourth semester was completed in 2019 and I registered for Summer Internship. As I got selected for Summer Analyst at Goldman Sachs, I was out of the internship drive. During the internship drive, several companies come to the college campus to hire summer interns for the year 2020. Some companies also arrive for the placements of fourth-year students. In DAIICT, several companies arrive to hire summer interns such as Microsoft, Amazon, Sprinklr, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, etc. Some companies kept CPI criteria while many of the other was open to all.

The placements are a very critical part of the university and hence it is very essential to understand the significance of being eligible for the placement procedure.

  • The basic criterion of eligibility for on-campus placements is that the candidate should be a registered student of DAIICT and should be graduating from the institute in the specified year. Every other criterion could be imposed by the company. The students would have to register themselves on the placement website by providing all the following details:
  • Full Name
  • Contact Details
    1. Phone No.
    2. Emergency Phone No.
    3. Skype Id
    4. Email Id
    5. Permanent Address and Current Address
  • Academic Details -
    1. Class 10 and 12 percentile
    2. CPI
    3. Backlogs
  • Resume
  • There are three types of placement offers from companies:
  • Internship + Job (I+J)
  • Job only (J)
  • Internship only (I)
  • The classification of the companies appearing for the on-campus placements is done in two categories
  • Category I – Rs 9 lakhs per annum and above
  • Category II - Below Rs 9 lakhs per annum
  • All the placement offers are calculated based on Cost To Company (CTC)
  • For Internship + Job (I+J) and Job (J), the CTC declared by the company is used for category determination
  • For Internship (I) only, post-internship-offered CTC for employees are used for category determination
  • A student who gets placed (gets a Job (J) or Internship Job offer (I+J)) in Category I Company is out of the placement process i.e. they will no longer be eligible to apply for forthcoming companies and the offer they receive is the final offer and no further switching is applicable (‘Switching*’ is explained in detail below).
  • A student who gets placed (gets a Job (J) or Internship Job offer (I+J)) in Category II Company is allowed only one chance to switch. If offer received in Category II is x LPA then they could switch to a company which provides an offer of 1.5*x LPA or above.

* Switch is a condition where a student is allowed to sit for the placement in a company according to the policy even after getting the first offer and they got selected by that company. If they use a switch, then the first offer stands cancelled and the second offer becomes the valid standing offer. A student is not allowed to use more than one switch.

  • A student who gets an Internship offer (I) in any category has strictly one chance to switch and they could switch to a Category I or Category II Company (any offer: Internship (I), Internship Job (I+J) or a Job (J)) and utilise the switch strictly once).
  • If the new offer received is Internship (I) or Internship Job (I+J), the previous internship would be cancelled. The student would not be given a choice.
  • If the new offer made is a job offer and it allows students to go for an internship elsewhere, then they would be allowed to keep both.
  • Some companies tend to layout CPI criteria like 7, 6, 6.5, 5, and 7.5. These are generally near the average score of the entire batch. Many times the placement cell of the college negotiates the CPI criteria in favour of the students.
  • Interviews could also take place via Skype and telephone. For that, applicants need to have reasonable internet speed limits.

Dream Companies

At the discretion of the Placement Office, certain offers are put into the Dream Category. All the students (even if they have used their switch) could sit for a Dream Category Company. Generally, there are no CPI criteria for companies in this category. If a student gets an offer in a dream company, their previous offer stands rejected and the student is out of the placement process (including other dream companies). These companies are not for summer internships.
