Q:   What are the GATE exam shift timings?
A:

There are two shift timings for the GATE exam. Candidates can find the details of the shift timing on the official website. The GATE shift timings are as follows -

  • Forenoon  - 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
  • Afternoon - 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm

Candidates can also find the exam timing details mentioned in the GATE admit card. Candidates are advised to appear for the GATE 2026 exam on the date prescribed in the hall ticket. 

Q:   In how many cities will GATE 2026 exam be conducted?

This year, the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, is conducting the GATE exam. The GATE 2026 exam dates have been announced. The GATE 2026 application form was released on August 28 and was available till October 6 (with regular fees). From September 29 to October 9, the form was available with late fees.

  • The GOAPS portal is different from the GATE’s website.
  • It is a sub-section of the GATE website for performing GATE-related activities. 
  • The GOAPS registration link changes every year as per the conducting IIT/IISc authorities.

How long is the GATE GOAPS Portal Remains Active?

The GATE GOAPS portal mainly remains active from the start of the GATE application form till completion of the GATE admission process. 

For example, the GATE GOAPS 2025 portal of IIT Roorkee will remain active till December 31, 2025 (as it is the last date to download the GATE scorecard 2025, paying a registration fee of INR 500).

Applicants can check the GATE 2026 exam dates on the official website- gate2026.iitg.ac.in. The dates have been released. With the help of the exam schedule, candidates can prepare for the test. IIT Guwahati will conduct the GATE 2026 exam on February 7, 8, 14, and 15 in two shifts. 

Q:   What is the validity of the GATE 2026 scorecard?
A:

The GATE scorecard 2026 is valid for three years, which means the scorecard can be used till 2029. Candidates can download the scorecard using their enrollment ID and password. Candidates can use the scorecard for M.Tech or PhD admissions, or PSU recruitment. 

Q:   Who is conducting the GATE 2026 exam?
A:

The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, will be conducting the GATE 2026 exam. The dates are OUT now. IIT Guwahati last conducted the GATE exam in 2018. Candidates who want to apply for M.Tech or any research programmes can apply for GATE. The application window is available till October 7 without late fees (revised), till October 13 (with late fee) and the exam will be conducted on February 7, 8, 14, and 15.

Details Required for GATE Candidate Login 2026

Creating an account on the GOAPS portal is linked to the GATE 2026 registration. It is the first stage to access for any GATE 2026-related activities. The following details are required to create an account on GOAPS -

  • Full name of the candidate
  • Date of birth
  • Valid email ID and 
  • Mobile number

How to generate a GATE enrollment ID and account on GOAPS

To create an account on the GOAPS portal, candidates can follow the steps below -

  • Visit the GATE 2026 official website - gate2026.iitg.ac.in
  • Then click on the GATE Application Portal/GOAPS portal - goaps.iitg.ac.in
  • Then select “New Candidate Registration” and enter the required details (as mentioned above)
  • Once the registration is complete, candidates will receive an enrollment ID

After receiving the GATE enrollment ID, candidates must create a unique GATE password (around 8 to 15 characters), during the enrollment. 

NOTE: The enrollment ID and password are the GATE 2026 candidate login credentials.

  • Log in using the credentials
  • Fill out the personal, educational qualification, address, choice of paper combination, exam cities, etc. details.

  • The OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number and email address.

The GATE exam is conducted once a year. The entrance test takes place on multiple dates and shifts for 30 test papers. For 2026, IIT Guwahati is conducting the exam on February 7, 8, 14, and 15.

No, a duplicate GATE 2026 admit card will not be provided at the test center. Candidates must carry their own admit card along with the mentioned documents and items to the GATE exam center. IIT Guwahati will release the GATE admit card on January 2.
