Gujarat students build motorcycle that runs on both petrol, electricity

At a time when fuel rates have touched a record high, a group of students from VVP Engineering College in Rajkot, Gujarat, have come up with a motorcycle that can run on both petrol and electricity.

A group of seventh semester students of VVP Engineering College in Rajkot, Gujarat, have claimed that the motorcycle developed by them can run for 40 km when fully charged. While speaking with a news agency, Dr Maniar, Dean of the Mechanical Department of the college, said that the main motive behind developing this bike is due to rising fuel prices. He further added that there are many issues with e-vehicles, such as high price, slow charging problems, and this is the reason why they thought of developing a vehicle that can run on both.

With this objective in mind, students modified the transmission of an existing motorcycle to make it capable of running on both petrol and electricity.
Fully-charged hybrid vehicle can run up to 40 km per hour

He said, “The students have attached four separate batteries. The battery takes six hours to completely charge. The fully-charged battery can run for 40 km with a maximum speed of 40 km per hour by using one unit of power at a cost of 17 paise.”

Switches to shift between options

With this hybrid motorcycle, riders can switch between battery or petrol for running the engine using two separate switches provided with it.
