Commonly asked questions
Q:   Where can I apply for JEE Mains?
A:

Candidates can apply for JEE Mains only on the official website - jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Q:   How to crack JEE Mains in first attempt?
A:

Clearing the JEE Main exam in first attempt is not a difficult task. Several students clear JEE Main while in class 12. One thing that makes it easy to clear JEE Main with class 12 is that students are in regular touch of most JEE syllabus. To score good marks in JEE Main in the first attempt, it is advised that you study class 11 and 12 topics thoroughly, clear all the concepts and solve mock test papers. Also, NCERT books which you study in class 11 and 12 are the best books for JEE Main preparation. Students must study NCERT properly and solve all the questions in the book and do not memorize the concepts as some students do rather understand the concepts.

Q:   Do the JoSAA registered candidates need to fill CSAB application form separately?
A:

Yes, applicants who wish to particpate in CSAB have to register online from the CSAB official website as both CSAB and JoSAA are separate counselling processes. The document verification of such candidates will not be conducted again, as the documents are verified during JoSAA.

Q:   What is the difficulty level of JEE Main?
A:

JEE Main difficulty level is similar to class 12 board exams. Syllabus of JEE Main is similar to class 11 and 12 syllabus. The questions asked in exam are tricky and need an in-depth understanding of subjects. They need to have conceptual understanding of every topic to score well in exam. Those who study NCERT can get a decent score in JEE Mains.

How to Fill JEE Main 2027 Session 1 Application Form?

The JEE Main application process has generally involved three broad stages: registration, filling the detailed application form and fee payment. Check how to complete each step of the application process in detail below:

Step 1: Visit the JEE Main 2027 Official Website

Go to the official JEE Main website and look for the link related to JEE Main 2027 Registration or Online Application Form.

Once NTA activates the registration link, click on it and carefully read the instructions displayed on the page.

Candidates should not wait until the last few hours to register. Heavy traffic on the website near the deadline can make the process difficult.

Step 2: Complete New Candidate Registration

Candidates appearing for JEE Main 2027 for the first time will have to create their registration credentials.

Enter the basic information requested by NTA. This may include:

  • Candidate's name

  • Date of birth

  • Gender

  • Mobile number

  • Email ID

  • Parent/guardian details

  • Identity/authentication information

The details should be entered exactly as required by the official instructions.

Step 3: Verify Mobile Number and Email ID

After entering the required registration details, candidates may have to verify their mobile number and email ID through OTP.

Candidates should use an active mobile number and email address that they can access throughout the examination and admission process.

Do not use a temporary email ID or a mobile number that may become inactive.

The registered email ID and mobile number can be used for important communications from NTA, including application-related updates.

Step 4: Note Down the Application Number

After successful registration, NTA will generate an application number or registration credentials. Candidates must save it carefully.

Candidates should also save the password and other login information securely. It is advisable to take a screenshot or note down the application number separately.

The application number will be required to log in to the candidate's account and access future JEE Main-related activities.

Step 5: Fill Personal Details

After registration, log in to the application portal and complete the detailed application form.

Candidates will have to enter information such as:

  • Candidate's name

  • Father's name

  • Mother's name

  • Date of birth

  • Gender

  • Category

  • Nationality

  • State of eligibility (State of eligibility generally refers to the state from which the candidate has passed or is appearing for the qualifying examination, rather than simply the state where the candidate currently lives)

  • PwD/PwBD status, if applicable

  • Other details asked by NTA

Important: Do not randomly change the spelling of your name between different documents.

Step 6: Select the JEE Main 2027 Paper

Candidates will have to select the paper they want to appear for.

Depending on the official JEE Main 2027 structure, candidates may be able to apply for:

  • Paper 1 - B.E./B.Tech

  • Paper 2A - B.Arch

  • Paper 2B - B.Planning

Candidates interested in engineering admissions generally apply for Paper 1.

Those who want to pursue architecture or planning should carefully check the eligibility and subject requirements before selecting the relevant paper.

If a candidate wants to appear for more than one paper, the options and additional fee, if applicable, should be checked in the official JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin.

Step 7: Enter Academic Qualification Details

Candidates will have to provide details of their Class 10 and Class 12 or equivalent examination.

Depending on the candidate's status, the form may ask for information such as:

  • Name of school/college

  • Board

  • Year of passing

  • Whether appearing or passed

  • Qualifying examination details

  • Roll number

  • School location

  • Marks/percentage, where applicable (Candidates appearing for Class 12 in 2027 should select the appropriate status in the form.)

Step 8: Enter Examination City Preferences

Candidates will have to select four preferred JEE Main 2027 exam centres from the options available on the application portal.

Exam city selection options are linked to the candidate's permanent and present address. Candidates are shown exam city choices based on the addresses entered during registration. Candidates should select cities that are practical to travel to.

Step 9: Upload Photograph

The photograph is one of the most important parts of the application form.

Candidates should upload the photograph strictly according to the specifications mentioned in the JEE Main 2027 notification.

The photograph should be clear and should meet the prescribed format, dimensions, file size and other requirements.

NTA has also issued advisories in previous years regarding mismatches between photographs submitted in the application form and identity documents.

Before uploading, check:

  • Whether the photograph is recent

  • Whether the face is clearly visible

  • Whether the background meets the prescribed requirement

  • Whether the file format is correct

  • Whether the file size falls within the permitted range

Step 10: Upload Signature and Other Documents

Candidates also have to upload their signature and other documents depending on their category and circumstances. Candidates claiming reservation or special provisions should keep the relevant certificates ready.

For example, candidates claiming benefits under PwD/PwBD provisions should have the appropriate certificate/document issued by the competent authority. Similarly, candidates applying under EWS, SC, ST or OBC-NCL categories should follow NTA's instructions regarding the validity and format of their certificates.

Check: JEE Mains 2027 Photo & Signature Guidelines

Step 11: Review the Entire Application Form

This is one of the most important steps.

Before clicking the final submit button, carefully review every section.

Check:

  • Name

  • Date of birth

  • Gender

  • Category

  • Parent details

  • Mobile number

  • Email ID

  • Address

  • State of eligibility

  • Academic details

  • Paper selected

  • Examination city choices

  • Photograph

  • Signature

  • Category/PwD details

  • Other information entered in the form

Do not rush through the review page. A five-minute review can prevent a major problem later.

Step 12: Pay the JEE Main 2027 Application Fee

After completing the form, candidates will have to pay the application fee online. The amount can vary depending on factors such as:

  • Paper selected

  • Candidate category

  • Gender

  • Examination centre/location

  • Number of papers

Candidates should pay only through the payment methods displayed on the official portal.

Step 13: Download the Confirmation Page

After successful submission and payment, download the final confirmation page. Candidates should save all the following details:

  1. Confirmation page

  2. Application number

  3. Payment receipt, if available

  4. Uploaded photograph and signature

  5. Login credentials

It is advisable to keep both a digital copy and a printout of the confirmation page. The confirmation page can be useful if there is any issue concerning the submitted application.

Students can prepare for both Mains and Advanced together but it is not a wise idea to prepare together as both exams have different syllabus, exam pattern and difficulty level. Commonly asked questions
Q:   When will NTA start JEE Main application correction facility?
A:

JEE Mains correction window 2026 has now been closed. The facility to make corrections is available online on the JEE Main website jeemain.nta.nic.in. During the correction window, candidates are allowed to change/modify details filled in their application form. Candidates must note that not all fields in the application form will be open for correction. Only certain information like category, address of correspodance/permanent address, exam city preference, paper choice, signature etc. can be modified. Candidates might also be required to pay additional fees for making corrections in certain fields.

Q:   What is the difficulty level of JEE exam? What is it all about?
A:

The difficulty level of JEE Main exam is a little high than the class 12 board exams. Students who are studying in class 12 can score good marks in JEE Main by studying a little extra for the JEE. Students who have studied NCERT textbooks of Physics Chemistry and Mathematics thoroughly can get good marks. The joint Entrance Examination, popularly known as JEE Main is for admission into NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs for B.Tech and architecture courses in India.

Q:   How to prepare for JEE Main from Class 11th and 12th?
A:
Starting the JEE Main preparation from class 11 or 12 is the best time. As JEE Main syllabus consists of topics from class 11 and 12, students can easily cover all the topics along with school. Students can begin by checking the topics that is covered in both school and JEE Main and give special attention to them. For all three subjects, study NCERT and also take help from reference books. Understand the concepts thoroughly and solve numerical problems. To crack JEE Main along with class 12, students should devote at least 2-3 hours for JEE beside class 12 studies. Regularly solve JEE Main mock test and solve previous year question papers to evaluate the performance.
Q:   Is one month sufficient for JEE Main preparation?
A:
One month is not sufficient for JEE Main preparation if a student has not started preparing or have not studied earlier for the exam. As the syllabus of JEE Main is vast, studying all the topics and remembering them take a lot of effort. However, class 12 student can get a decent score in JEE Main if time after the bard exam is devoted exclusively for the JEE preparation. Since most topics of JEE Main and class 12 are similar, students need to revise all the topics and solve previous year JEE Main question papers. Start solving JEE Main mock test papers at last 3-4 days before the exam to make yourself comfortable with the exam.
