Below are some of the last-minute preparation tips for candidates who are appearing for JEE Main 2024 exam.

JEE Main 2024 exam is just around the corner. The first session of JEE Main 2024 is likely to be held in February. With only a few days left for the exam, aspirants should try and quickly revise all chapters of the three subjects by going through points to ponder and formulae at a glance for each chapter of each subject.

To prepare well for the JEE Main, faculty from renowned coaching, Ramesh Batlish said, “Students should prepare by revising for both board and JEE Main simultaneously for chapters common in Board and JEE Main syllabus. Even the Class 11 syllabus for JEE Main can be revised with a well-planned timetable of the three subjects Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Selective preparation is discouraged. All subjects should be prepared with the same attention and matching inputs”.

The difference between the board and JEE Main is only the approach and mindset to solve questions. Unlike board, questions in JEE are framed to test in-depth conceptual understanding and analytical skills instead of simple formulae-based.

Q:   How many months are required to prepare for JEE Mains exam?
A:

The time period required to complete the JEE Main preparation depends mainly on the students. Every student has their own pace of study. Ideally, 6-month time is good enough to complete the JEE Main preparation. Students who have started preparing from class 11 or 12 can easily prepare for JEE Main in 6 months considering the topics of JEE syllabus have already been studied in classes 11 and 12.

JEE Main preparation is most effective with classes 11 and 12 as almost 90-95 percent of topics are similar in both exams. This way students can easily complete the entire JEE Main syllabus as well as the syllabus of classes 11 and 12. After the board exams, students get 1-2 months' time where they can focus entirely on JEE Main. Students who have started late for the JEE Main exam can make a 6-month plan where in the first three months they have to focus on revising the syllabus studied in classes 11 and 12. In the next two months focus on solving questions of JEE Main and analyzing the mistakes being made, if any. The last month should be focused on solving mock tests and JEE Main previous year question papers.

Q:   How to crack JEE Mains in first attempt?
A:

Clearing the JEE Main exam in first attempt is not a difficult task. Several students clear JEE Main while in class 12. One thing that makes it easy to clear JEE Main with class 12 is that students are in regular touch of most JEE syllabus. To score good marks in JEE Main in the first attempt, it is advised that you study class 11 and 12 topics thoroughly, clear all the concepts and solve mock test papers. Also, NCERT books which you study in class 11 and 12 are the best books for JEE Main preparation. Students must study NCERT properly and solve all the questions in the book and do not memorize the concepts as some students do rather understand the concepts.

Q:   How should I prepare for JEE Mains and Advanced together?
A:
Students can prepare for both Mains and Advanced together but it is not a wise idea to prepare together as both exams have different syllabus, exam pattern and difficulty level. The difficulty level of JEE Advanced exam is much higher than JEE Mains. If preparing together for both the exams, make a list of topics that are asked in JEE Main as well as Advanced. Solve questions from these topics from NCERT as well as additional books. For JEE Mains, students can stick to NCERT but for JEE Advanced students need to take help from books like HC Verma.

Last Minute Preparation Tips for JEE Main 2024

  • Students are advised not to attempt any new questions during the last week before JEE Main examination day. The student must eat healthily and should sleep for 6 to 7 hours a night. Short meditation/relaxation exercises each day help to remain calm and focused. Taking a small break of 5-10 minutes after an hour of study is very important to relax your mind. It reduces fatigue and helps in improving concentration.
  • They should not be discouraged if at first glance paper appears difficult since it is the relative performance that matters.
  • In the examination hall, students should take deep breaths before attempting the paper. Be composed and confident. Have faith in yourself. Go through the paper very carefully, number of questions, marking scheme, and negative marking.
  • One-fourth of marks are deducted for the wrong answer to the question not matching with the answer by the paper setter. Students should start with questions he/she finds easy and confident to solve and then attempt to solve progressively difficult questions. The golden rule to follow is to spend an average of 2 minutes on a question and not to get stuck with any question due to ego.
  • Students should emphasize taking more and more JEE Main mock tests. By solving the model/sample and actual papers of the last few years in a simulated examination environment with a watch to mark the time, students can master the skills of tackling JEE Main and Advanced with speed and accuracy and develop examination temperament. Aspirants can identify weak areas and take remedial measures for progressive improvement. This helps the candidates in sharpening their problem-solving ability and time management.

Students can begin by checking the topics that is covered in both school and JEE Main and give special attention to them. For all three subjects, study NCERT and also take help from reference books. However, class 12 student can get a decent score in JEE Main if time after the bard exam is devoted exclusively for the JEE preparation. Since most topics of JEE Main and class 12 are similar, students need to revise all the topics and solve previous year JEE Main question papers. Start solving JEE Main mock test papers at last 3-4 days before the exam to make yourself comfortable with the exam.
