Preparing for JEE Advanced. Here is a comparison of the best books for JEE Advanced mathematics preparation that will help you make the right choice for yourself.
JEE Advanced, being the last and the toughest one, requires a lot of attention and thorough preparation. The first step towards JEE Advanced preparation is choosing the correct set of books. Books will guide you and will make your practice complete. There are a lot of books available for JEE Advanced mathematics but each is good for some chapters.
For choosing the correct book, you need to know the features of all such good books so that you can choose the most suitable one as per your learning pace and preparation levels. No matter which book you choose, you must stick to the JEE Advanced syllabus given on the official website.

Cengage Mathematics
Cengage publication has published a lot of books for both JEE Main and Advanced. Some books have only questions and solutions (The New Pattern Series) and there are unit wise books too that explain theory well, solved examples and unsolved questions as well. If you have got sufficient theory notes from coaching material and elsewhere, then you can directly go for their book which has got only questions. Those who are either studying on their own or don’t have sufficient coaching material can go for the unit wise books and also prepare theory from it.
In general, the Cengage books for JEE Advanced mathematics have a good mix of questions. There are ample questions for JEE Main and Advanced in these books. The Advanced level questions have different patterns too, there are matrix match questions, assertion reasoning, integer type, fill in the blanks and true and false type questions too. The theory is decently explained and the solved examples are good for explaining concept application.
The Cengage books are really good for chapters like permutation and combination, probability, calculus, and complex numbers. In short, their books are a complete package for an aspirant aiming to excel in JEE.
Arihant Mathematics
The Arihant books are pretty similar in concept to the Cengage books. There are unit wise books as well as books containing questions only. One can choose either of them depending upon the criteria specified in the previous point. The Arihant books can be used for specialization in theory. They have detailed explanations of all proofs and the other theory in general. They provide a lot of solved examples and give alternate methods of solving various questions too. There are small tips and tricks given in between the theory too.
The Arihant book of coordinate geometry for JEE Advanced by SK Goyal is one of the best books for JEE Advanced coordinate geometry. The theory explains concepts in a good way and the questions are of a good level. Apart from this, their differential calculus and trigonometry unit books are good too. If you are looking to get a book with a decent mix of questions where most of the questions are of a slightly better level and detailed theory then Arihant would be a good choice. For coordinate geometry, Arihant must be given a try.
TMH Mathematics
The TMH mathematics book for JEE Advanced has a good level of questions. One might not find detailed theory in this book. There is a crisp and concise theory along with solved examples and unsolved questions. The mix of questions is good as there are different types of questions in the book. If you want a book with just summary sized theory and a good mix of slightly tougher questions and above the basic level then you can choose TMH. The questions might look tough to you if you haven’t done basic practice from elsewhere. For this reason, one can use this book for practice during revision or as a side book for practising before tests in a time-bound manner.
Problems Plus in IIT Mathematics by A Das Gupta
The theory in this book is minimal. It is mostly in the form of a summary or point form. The theory will just give you a brief review of formulas and concepts in a very precise form. However, the book gives several solved examples to explain the application of a formula to students. This book has really good problems and they are not meant for beginners. The questions are tough and should be done only when the basics are extremely strong else you might end up losing confidence. Thus, for practising questions strictly for the JEE Advanced level during revision, you can do this book. The questions are mind-boggling and will present a concept differently. There are different types of questions in this book. All topics are given equally good. The book also gives various tests at the end of chapters that you can attempt to test your learning. This book will be a good choice for a final advanced level revision if your concepts are clear.
Once you are done with either of the above-mentioned books for JEE Advanced, you must practice questions of past years. Questions of the previous 10 years must be attempted by a candidate. They will help you identify the kind of questions asked and will also help you modify the revision strategy according to your performance. Other than that, mock tests are a must. You can buy a mock test book from either of the publications given above. You could also get an online test series for practising mock tests from any leading coaching institute. These will be the final steps of your JEE preparation. You can mark the out-of-box questions that you come across during preparation so that you can see them during the last few days to review their concepts again. Don’t do a lot in the last few days; just strengthen what you have already done. Don’t panic! All the best!

As per the analysis of the previous year data, the candidates belonging to general category must aim to score around 180 marks out of 360 to qualify the exam. 180+ marks will be a safe zone and will ensure that you pass the exam for IIT admissions. However, note that this marks will not get you a go
