History of India from the earliest times up to c. 300 CE

This course helps students understand ancient India through different historical sources. It covers Vedic culture, political systems, economy, society, and religion. Students also learn about the development of political structures under the Cholas, Arabs, and other ruling groups. The subject further explores the growth of art and architecture in medieval India and the patterns of trade and cultural exchange during the period.

History of India, c. 300 to 1200

This subject provides an insight into the state and administration, economy, religion, art, society and literature of the Guptas and Vakatakas. Topics like the evolution of the political structures of the Rashtrakutas, Palas and Prathiharas and their economic, cultural and religious developments are also covered in this subject.

Social Formations and Cultural Patterns of the Ancient World

This subject provides an overview of the evolution of humankind, the palaeolithic and Mesolithic cultures, food production, agriculture and animal husbandry. The topics like slave society in ancient Greece, nomadic groups in Central and West Asia and the Bronze Age Civilizations are covered in this subject.

Capitalism and Colonialism

This subject provides an insight into the concepts of capitalism in the United States, both pre and post Civil War and the Capitalist form of development in Japan. The Russian experiment on Imperialism and socialism and the scramble of Colonies in India, China and Africa are also covered.

Issues in World History

This subject provides an in-depth analysis of Colonialism and Nationalism and the social transformations after the Second World War, the Cold War and the character of the Communist states. Social movements like ecological, feminist, human rights issues, modernity and cultural transformation, and media and consumption are also covered in this subject.

Gender in the Modern World

This subject introduces students to the study of gender in history. It covers concepts such as patriarchy, masculinity, and femininity. Students learn about the role of gender during the French Revolution, the use of iconography, women's suffrage movements in Europe, socialist movements in Russia, socialist feminism, and the participation of women in the anti-apartheid movement in Africa.

Introducing Indian Art

This subject provides an overview of the appreciation of art, craft, sculptures, iconography, etc. It provides an overview of Architecture in Temples like Nagara, Dravida and Vesara, in Mosques like Qutb Complex, Humanyun's tomb, Taj Mahal, Jama Masjid, etc., and Colonial Architecture along with modern and contemporary architecture.

Social Formations and Cultural Patterns of the Medieval World

This subject offers an understanding of the Roman Empire, including the Principate and the structure of the slave society in ancient Rome. It explores the religion and culture of the period, the crises that shaped the Roman Empire, as well as the religious and cultural developments in Medieval Europe and the societies of the Central Islamic lands.

This subject helps students understand the shift from feudalism to capitalism and the major ideas related to this change. It covers the Renaissance, the European Reformation of the 16th century, and the Commercial Revolution. Students also learn about the rise of the European state system and the political developments in countries such as Spain and France.

This subject provides an overview of the background, making of the republic, evolution of American Democracy, Early Capitalism, the Agrarian South, the Ante Bellum Foreign Policy, the Civil War and the concepts of Abolitionism and Sectionalism, etc.

History of the USSR

This subject gives students an understanding of the Russian Revolutions and their impact on world history. It covers the Provisional Government, the New Economic Policy (NEP), the Communist International (Comintern), the formation of the USSR, Soviet industrialisation, and developments in Soviet agriculture.

This subject offers an understanding of the sources of historiography, the establishment of Mughal rule, its consolidation under Akbar, and the processes of expansion and integration. It also examines aspects of rural society and economy, along with the political and religious ideas of the period.

History of China and Japan - I
