Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University

One of the oldest distance learning institutes, Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University (VMOU) was established in 1987. Earlier, it was known as Kota Open University. This open university in Rajasthan is recognised by the UGC-DEB. The NAAC has accredited a Grade ‘A’. At VMOU, they offer over 50 undergraduate, postgraduate, certificate and diploma programmes. They have regional study centres in Ajmer, Kota, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Bharatpur and Bikaner that allow students from the remotest locations of Rajasthan to pursue higher education. Jaipur National University 

Jaipur National University’s School of Distance Education and Learning (SODEL) was established in the academic year 2008-09. It is approved by a joint committee of AICTE-UGC-DEC. SODEL’s motto is ‘easy access and quality assurance’. Their distance education programmes are at par with their regular, classroom programmes. Jayoti Vidyapeeth Women’s University 

Despite being an all-women’s university, Jayoti Vidyapeeth Women’s University offers distance learning programmes to both men and women. This university offers distance education in the streams of Humanities & Social Sciences, Management & Commerce and computer science. Just like other names on the list, the programmes offered at this university are also UGC-DEB-approved. In addition to the courses already available, the university also plans to offer a distance learning course in Journalism & Library Science. Note - The tuition fee mentioned above is for male candidates. Female candidates have to pay INR 500-1000 less per semester depending on their chosen course. This tuition fee also includes the self-learning material provided by the university. 

NIMS University 

The National Institute of Medical Sciences University or NIMS offers distance education in various disciplines. Their courses are recognised by the UGC-DEB. The university currently has more than 12,000 students enrolled on their distance learning programmes. Through distance learning, they aim to offer affordable higher education at NIMS. The university has study centres spread across the state where students enrolled on their distance learning programmes can avail of in-person counselling with expert counsellors. Suresh Gyan Vihar University 

Suresh Gyan Vihar University’s Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) was established in 2012. The centre was set up with the intention of providing young and adult students with a quality alternative to conventional classroom education. The university provides various distance learning programmes like BBA, BA, BCom, MCom and various other courses that are aimed at developing industry-oriented skills.
