Amity Law School de-affiliation

Amity Law School, Delhi has lost its affiliation from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU). This means that all BA LLB (Hons) course aspirants now cannot secure admission at Amity Law School, Delhi on the basis of the law entrance test conducted by GGSIPU (also known as IP University).

The decision for de-affiliation was taken by Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (RBSF) recently and came into effect immediately. As per media reports, rumours regarding de-affiliation of Amity Law School, Delhi from GGSIPU were doing the rounds since past one and a half years. However, confirmation on the news has come only recently.

An official notification released regarding the same stated, “It is hereby informed to the students aspiring for admission in BA LLB (Hons) programme for the academic session, 2018-19 in the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University that the Ritnand Balved Education Foundation has decided to disaffiliate the institution, Amity Law School, Delhi with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, with immediate effect, before the start of the academic session, 2018-19.”

The notification further informed, “The Amity Law School Delhi shall not be participating in the counselling and admission process to be held in the week commencing June 11, 2018 or any later date, for admissions in BA LLB (Hons) programme in the present academic session 2018-19 onwards, offered by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.”

It may be noted that the foundation has not stated any reason for the de-affiliation of the institute. However, many Amity Law School students feel that the decision is led by a chain of events in the college. Some such events include a student’s suicide at the law school, protests for justice and cases filed in association with it, followed by a change in higher authorities and college staff. Apart from this, students had been dissatisfied with the college’s attendance norms for a long time due to which many of them had also filed cases against the college in the court of law.

Currently, while RBSF’s decision has left many Amity students wondering about its impact on their careers, it is expected that all students who are currently enrolled in the college will get their degrees from the university.
