Rahul Saraf

I was a Science student, and possessed a strong Mathematical background. Doing an MBA was always on my mind, but I developed a passion for running a business when I started working in my own firm, where I got to learn the mechanics of trade.

Working further made me understand the importance of Management education. In my search for an institute, I was inclined towards selecting IMT, Nagpur because of a number of things: the institute’s PGDM Marketing course was renowned, the placement record of the institute was very good, and the faculty consisted of experts. Finally, I had my seniors in the institute and other acquaintances who were doing very well for themselves, and with their counseling, I aimed for this institute.

How I cracked college admission

I did not take coaching classes, but I regularly prepared on my own. I took CAT, CMAT and XAT. I spent a considerable amount of time on Quantitative Aptitude as compared to the other sections because it was my strength and I wanted to capitalise on it.

My strategy was to strengthen my basics instead of only trying out the difficult portions to test my acumen. Building upon basics led me to a strong foundation which in turn enabled me to solve complicated problems with relative ease.

The admission process of the college tested us on various interpersonal skills and capabilities for which I had prepare myself in advance by honing my oratory skills, reading regularly, gaining knowledge about all recent happenings and revisiting my graduation basics. As an MBA aspirant I was trying for a number of colleges but I was fortunate enough to get one of my major preferences as my college.

What I gained from my college experience

IMT, Nagpur not only imparts education but an experience that consists of an amalgamation of education, learning and experience. The college life is very dynamic and there is not a single moment of monotony – there are varied activities that that take place and keep the students indulged. There are various classes each day that consist of a mixture of different disciplines to avoid any loss of interest. The faculty here is extremely supportive and go to any extent to help us out. The campus is luckily not a concrete jungle but a green one. Amidst a refreshing environment and e best facilities, learning becomes a simple journey. My favourite classes are that of Marketing and Human Resources – I enjoy these subjects thoroughly.

The campus has events happening around the year which keep us engaged and there are a number of extra-curricular options on campus including various sports such as basketball, football, volleyball, performing arts such as dramatics, dance etc., a fully functional gymnasium and many other such facilities. The campus is also student run with a number of student bodies performing many important tasks and carrying out important functions. I am a part of the Dramatics team and the corporate communication team of the college. Also, I spend a great deal of time in the learning resource centre of the college. It is an extremely rich source of learning which provides us with the latest journals, articles, books and publications.

Personally, I would not like to change anything about the institute because it is in its uniqueness that it attains strength. Finally, over the course of time this course and institute has made me independent, responsible and has taught me how to be responsible – all this has reshaped me as a person. It has been the sheer exposure of so many factors that has made me not only a better student and manager, but also a better human being.
