Mystory@Rajat Sood: How I chose my course and college
I have always been one with a curious mind. Moreover, working on DIY projects and questioning the logics of how things work is something I loved as a child. Therefore, going for engineering after my 10th didn’t require a second thought. Moreover, from academics point of view, commerce domain didn’t excite me, and medical was not my cup of tea (truth has been told).
After completing my BTech, I realized knowing technical stuff is just not enough to survive the cut throat competition around – one needs to know how to shape a successful business out of his/her product to make a difference. That’s when I decided to go for my post-graduation in MBA and after appearing for various management entrance exams, I decided to pursue my MBA from FORE School of Management, New Delhi.
How I cracked college admission
I knew cracking an entrance exam was only the first checkpoint whereas, further processes including Group Discussions, Written Ability Test and Personal Interview were the major stones one needed to overcome in order to get into his or her dream college.
I had appeared for 2 entrance tests; Common Aptitude Test (CAT) and Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT). After scoring a decent percentile in both, I appeared for the further rounds of various colleges and after evaluating the pros and cons of all of them, I finally decided to pursue my MBA journey with FORE School Of Management, New Delhi.
I self-prepared for the same by taking help from content material available online, watching YouTube videos for getting tips related to Group Discussion and reading newspapers and magazines.
The main focus is on testing your general knowledge, presence of mind and confidence level and therefore I believe joining any coaching classes is not required to excel in those areas.
My college life
At college, I spend my time reading business magazines and engaging in various cultural activities. I have always been an active participant and a sports enthusiast and love playing Table tennis.
I have inclination towards marketing and therefore I love attending lectures pertaining to sales, marketing and business etc. and at the same time pay equal attention to subjects specific to strategy and IT. If given a chance I would love to learn and give a live guitar performance.
I believe in a MBA program, it is not about the learning but the application of that learning that changes your thought process and you as an individual. Now, I try to analyse any news, event or a product from a business perspective, its feasibility, future growth etc. Also, such rigorous course teaches you the importance of time and how to maintain work life balance.
