Too many eminent recruiters extended offers such as Amazon, Deloitte, Evalueserve, says Priya
There was this constant battle of time and effort going on in my mind as I stepped in the fourth trimester of my PGDM programme. However, before I proceed forward to share my story of landing up a lucrative placement opportunity first let me introduce myself. I am Priya Tiwari, a student of PGDM (Retail Management-RM) programme hailing from the pious land of Lord Krishna, Mathura (Uttar Pradesh).
I enrolled for the PGDM programme in JIMS Rohini Sector-5 after clearing the CAT exam with over 80 percentile and let me tell you that getting admission in one of the top B-schools of Delhi NCR has brought radical transformation in the way I look at the world today. The role of the highly sought-after PGDM degree can’t be ignored where skills of personality development and grooming are instilled every day. Nevertheless, the foundation of the course is the knowledgeable faculty of the B-school that plays commendable role in our success.
My reference to the constant struggle of time management means that I had to juggle a lot between the pressing deadlines of submitting the assignments, making presentations, attending online live lectures on Zoom, participating in the online industry-interactions with the experts, attending live-projects which are mandatory part of curriculum and much more.
I had shifted to the hostel initially in the pre-pandemic scenario. This gave me a complete overview of the B-schools’ magnificent infrastructure and all the amenities required to excel in the business management role. We had full-time access to library, 24x7 enabled Wi-fi services on campus, cafeterias, and think-labs that are our resourceful enablers.
In this entire process, the crucial part was getting the best placement opportunity as the pandemic had hit when we were on the verge of getting placed. JIMS Rohini had left no room for any doubts as the placement committee of the institute showed promptness at all levels to ensure that no student is left out from the placement process.
As a first step, the B-school has devised a Placement Preparedness Plan (PPP) which aims to groom the aspirants with the job-market related skills. We had to attend frequent workshops where corporate gurus guided us about the corporate culture and the expectations of recruiters from the freshers. Sessions on communication skills, presentation skills, email etiquettes, live sessions, interview tips and tricks, and art of participating in the group discussion were taught with precision.
After all the grooming and training sessions, summer placements started flowing on the campus and the recruitment drive was conducted online with the employers. My cardinal rule was to pick a company where I get a profile matching my interest rather than opting for a brand that speaks volumes in the market and offers a profile in which I don’t see a future.
Sticking to my ground rules, I sat for an interview with a start-up firm named “MyTransform” whose core business is to help students provide career guidance based on their personality traits. I was assigned the role of ‘Management Trainee’ and I received a 360 degree view of the organisation’s roles and responsibilities. Had it not been for the excellent placement team at JIMS Rohini, I would have never been able to get hands on this wonderful opportunity especially during the pandemic.
Just after the summer internship concluded, and we had submitted the projects, companies for final placements started flocking the campus. The competition to get hands on the best brands for the final placements had begun. The air was tense as everyone wanted the best packages offered by the top recruiters.
However, I didn’t give up on my cardinal rule; I waited for a company to offer me a profile in which I wanted to advance my career aspirations. Too many eminent recruiters extended offers such as Amazon, Deloitte, Evalueserve, ICICI Bank, Airtel, and many more. My breakthrough came across with Flipkart, as they offered me a worthwhile job profile related to my interest. I got the role of “Customer Warehouse Manager” with India’s top e-commerce website. I took the role with grace and my happiness knew no bounds as I never thought of attaining success from an on-campus job opportunity.
JIMS Rohini has offered me a platform that I thought would have never come my way due to the worsening condition of the economy. Where millions of people were losing jobs and were hit by the detrimental conditions spread by the virus, JIMS Rohini turned up as my knight in the shining armour.
