The season of surprises continues. After CAT, IIFT, MICAT, even SNAP this year had a bag full of surprises for test takers.
SNAP conducted by Symbiosis International Deemed University, for admission to its various MBA programmes offered by its business schools, was held today across India. This year the exam was conducted in online mode for the first time. Another new thing about the exam this year was infographics in Reasoning section. Quants and Verbal sections were easy while Data Interpretation was not too calculative.
According to MBA expert Rahul Singh, CATKing, “A good attempt would be 80-85 Questions and the overall expected cut off for SIBM would be 65-70.”

Here’s a detailed analysis of SNAP 2017 exam by Rahul Singh:
SNAP 2017 continues this academic season’s trend of throwing surprises with many innovative type of questions in every section. Let’s try and understand each sections difficulty level and areas of focus:
SNAP tested students on Speed, Logic and Analytical skills, this year particularly there was a higher focus on the analytical skills which was evident with infographics being introduced in the Reasoning section.
In all the sections, the Quants and Verbal sections were easy and could be easily managed provided the candidate ensured to skim through all the 40 questions as there were lengthy and time consuming questions as well. Data Interpretation for a change was not too calculation intensive and had 2 easy sets to solve.
Quantitative Ability had 2 Data Interpretation sets and apart from that arithmetic dominated the paper, as always.
Logical Reasoning was a twisted section with lot of surprises; there were barely any conventional analytical puzzles. More focus was on data analytics with questions coming from clocks and calendars. In fact the infographic was a big hit which tested the candidate on their interpretation and analytical skills. Verbal Reasoning questions were eliminated this year to make way for Game theory based questions. The scoring part was the basic blood relations, coding decoding and mathematical operations, input-output based questions.
Verbal Ability as expected was not like CAT - dominated by Reading Comprehension. This exam had only 2 very straightforward passages but were lengthy each comprising of 6 questions each. Vocabulary based questions: synonyms, antonyms, idioms and phrases were from the Norman Lewis. Parajumbles could trick students if they haven’t practiced but grammar was very basic. There were some conceptual grammar questions based on the parts of speech which definitely were on the difficult side.
Current Affairs section had both 2016 and 2017 questions as expected, and the highlight was there on Personality based questions and also recent last 15 days questions from Business and Economic Times.
Negative marking existed for the Multiple choice questions; 1/4th ie: 0.25 negative marks.
The exam was not very difficult, was manageable provided your concepts were clear. General Awareness was repeatedly done from a managerial perspective and even if one had command on speed, 150 questions in 120 minutes definitely test you. General Awareness is what makes the other sections doable.
A good attempt would be 80-85 Questions and the overall expected cut off for SIBM would be 65-70.

SNAP candidates are not required to apply separately for all SIU campuses. They can select colleges in the SNAP application form. However, they need to fill the PI-shortlist form separately for whichever colleges they get shortlisted.

Between SNAP and NMAT, the former is considered easier in terms of difficulty level of the questions. However, SNAP is of 60 minutes in which candidates have to address 60 question. This makes SNAP more challenging than NMAT which is a test of longer duration (2 hours having 108 questions).

Usually it is recommended that Arun Sharma series (Verbal, Quant, DI), R.S. Aggarwal's Reasoning/Quant books, and Word Power Made Easy, are enough for SNAP preparation. Sample questions papers, mock tests, sectional test series are also important.

SNAP total marks is 60 so 40 to 45 marks can be considered a good score. It will convert into about 97-98 percentile. So, it the exam, candidates must aim to attempt 40 to 45 questions correctly.

Two months may not be enough to prepare for SNAP exam, if you are attempting it for the first time. However, you can try with a very specific and focussed plan. Check SNAP question papers of previous years to know dominant subjects. Study only those thoroughly and practice mock tests side by side.
