Students’ Speak: Dropping a year should be the last option
By: Mrinal Jyoti Kumar
Students should not lose hope if they are unable to get a good percentile in MAT. Search other good colleges and wait for subsequent counselling sessions to get admission in a good B-school.
MBA requires full potential as well as in-depth knowledge and also interest in the business field like an entrepreneur mind.
Every aspirant dreams of doing MBA from a reputed B-school. These days, a lot of options are available for pursuing MBA from a business school. The important question that comes in everyone’s mind is it easy to get admission in these B Schools? The answer is No. A student needs to clear several MBA entrance exams for example CAT, XAT, MAT, etc. Preference is given to students with a good percentile in these exams by B-Schools.
Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a standard aptitude test conducted in India since 1998 by the All India Management Association (AIMA). MAT is used for admission to Master of Business Administration (MBA) and allied program by over 600 business schools across India i.e. you must have a good score to get admission. All the B Schools want a MAT score of 90+, however, if a student scores 50 or lesser, there are other options available.
Low MAT percentile doesn't mean that there is no good option available to get admission in a B-School. The list of B-Schools accepting low MAT scores is given below
Institute |

FIIB Delhi |
CAT/MAT |

IISE Lucknow |

In my opinion, students should not opt for dropping a year and consider taking admission in the colleges mentioned above to pursue MBA. However, if your dream is to do MBA from FMS, IIFT Delhi or similar institutes then you must have to score above 80% in MAT else consider dropping a year. This should be the last option for any student.
Also, if you do not want to take a year gap then apply in top universities and wait for your counselling session and during the counselling, give your best.
