What I like about IMT: Amal Binu

I am a person who thrives in a competitive environment, and for pursuing MBA, I was looking for a place that would offer me challenging dynamics, both peer-wise and curriculum-wise. IMT is one of the few campuses that can satiate my desire for such a rigorous learning environment.

I’m Amal Binu, a first-year PGDM Marketing student at IMT, Ghaziabad. I am a person who thrives in a competitive environment, and for pursuing MBA, I was looking for a place that would offer me challenging dynamics, both peer-wise and curriculum-wise. IMT is one of the few campuses that can satiate my desire for such a rigorous learning environment.

We have students from diverse backgrounds here at IMT – BA English (Hons), Psychology (Hons), Pharmacy and even Architecture. That really makes the classes a lot more interesting with a wide array of opinions being put on the table. I am a psychology dilettante who has a keen interest in knowing people and their cultures. So, the diversity aspect is a win for me.

Another major draw to IMT for me is the rich alumni network and the great legacy, of course! I have seen IMT alumni at senior positions in many big companies. Also, it’s a well-known college even in south India. So, you can say, I had formed a bond with this college even before joining it!

I must also tell you I’m a sportsperson, and my happiness of joining a management program at a top institute had a pensive tinge, since I thought my life would be all about juggling between academics, presentations and guest lectures. Boy, was I wrong! The college strongly believes in ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” There’s a dedicated sports committee which organizes competitions in lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, cricket, volleyball, football, volleyball, basketball and throw-ball. There are month-long tournaments in each sport, which are conducted along with studies.

I myself am a national-level table tennis player and a football lover, and I must say, the sports culture here is appreciable. The pièce de résistance is ‘Chakravyuh’ – the flagship event of the sports committee. It is a whole new level – it’s a non-stop 72-hour sporting extravaganza, wherein more than 8000 students from the top 24 B-schools participate and battle it out!

My specialization at IMT is Marketing, and I’m glad I made it here. This is because if IMT is the ‘Mecca of marketing’, the professors are the prophets! The faculty members here have exemplary pedagogy fortified with rich industry experience, making them the finest in the country. With the extensive case-study based approach, they make us push our limits and go the extra mile to make incisive marketers out of us. Plus, the college hosts many insightful guest lectures from industry experts, which is another major draw.

The Student Exchange Programme is one more thing I like about IMT. The international relations centre of our college is one of the best in the nation – ranked 3rd as per the NHRDN report - it opens gateways to some of the top universities of the world. The IRC also frequently engages in initiatives like Language Labs, i.e., language classes (Spanish, German and French) on the campus, faculty exchange programmes with partner B-schools, and various other events to expose the students to the various facets of management education.

The list of the things I like about IMT is incomplete without mentioning the most happening part of it - the campus life! I know I’m talking in superlatives, but it’s only true! The college hosts various national and international events, summits and seminars. We have popular bands and musicians coming over to perform here at IMT. We are also a host to various prestigious B-school competitions’ launch-events and finales.

IMTians believe in the mantra ‘Work hard, party harder’. We are a breed that believes in delivering. Once we are focussed on something, we go all in. Another famous catch-phrase on the campus is ‘IMT never sleeps’, and rightly so. The campus is alive 24x7 - something is always being created, or some million-dollar idea is getting shaped right around the corner.
