The National Assessment and Accreditation Council, better known as the NAAC grade, has recently granted accreditation to a total of 289 government institutions in Karnataka. In addition to the 289, another 18 colleges are anticipated to get the NAAC grade by this month's end, or March 2023, bringing the total number of accredited colleges to 307 overall. Government Arts College in Bengaluru achieved an A rating in 2019 out of the 289 government colleges that were accredited.

According to a TOI article, 22 universities received an A score from NAAC, 65 received a B , 95 received a B , and the remaining 95 received a B grade. Finally, 11 colleges received a C grade. Up until last year, this was from 2019. Out of the 430 government first grade colleges, 30 obtained an NAAC grade prior to 2019, and about 60 are still awaiting accreditation. Over the past two years 289 colleges in total have bagged the NAAC grade.

Pradeep P, Commissioner of collegiate education, said "that over 300 government colleges earning the NAAC grade is an accomplishment for them and that it is confirmation of their level at a time when private colleges are not receiving it."

Higher education institutes and colleges in India are accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, a government organisation. The NAAC recognition comes with a charge of about 3.2 lakh and is only good for five years. NAAC, an independent division of the University Grants Commission, was founded in 1994.
