Assam government released a set of revised guidelines for the containment zones and other districts. According to the reports, the government released these revised guidelines due to surge in the COVID-19 cases. The state government asked the authorities to shut down all the educational institutions in the state for the next 15 days until May 28 in order to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus infections. During this time, the government has allowed schools and colleges to continue the teaching and learning process via online classes.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) issued revised COVID-19 protocols to restrict public movement. It has directed to shut down all the educational institutions in the state. In an official notification released by the government, ASDMA said, “No physical classes shall be allowed for 15 days”.

Directing the institutions and schools to render good-quality online classes for the students amid these difficult times, the authority said, “all educational institutions including schools, colleges and universities must provide quality virtual options”. The new restrictions have been imposed in urban and adjacent areas within 5 km of radius from the periphery of municipal corporations, municipal boards and revenue towns.

Earlier, the Assam Higher Education Council (AHSEC) had postponed the higher secondary (HS) first year exams in view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the state. The HSLC or Class 10 board exams have also been postponed. The exams were scheduled to begin from May 11 and continue until June 1. Meanwhile, the Class 12 board examinations, i.e. AHSEC Board 2021 have also been deferred.
