Karnataka degree colleges are all set to vaccinate their students. Deputy Chief Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, said that all students in degree colleges in Karnataka will be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus in the first or second week of July, after which the institutions would reopen for classes. The offline classes are suspended due to the ongoing pandemic situation. The spread of novel coronavirus and the restrictions imposed throughout the country due to the devastatingly increasing numbers of the COVID-19 virus have already delayed the academic calendar by months.

Various state governments are now taking initiatives to vaccinate students against the COVID-19 virus in order to commence academic activities in the country. "A committee headed by Dr Devi Prasad Shetty has submitted a report covering all aspects, including the third wave. It has recommended opening degree colleges first. Students will be vaccinated in July, after which the classes will begin," Mr Narayan, who heads the COVID-19 Task Force, told reporters on the sidelines of a function. He further added, in a bid to get students to return to colleges, the government has coined the slogan 'Marali College Ge' (Back to colleges). The Deputy Chief Minister also stated that the state government is awaiting the central government official guidelines on reopening colleges. He said that the government is prioritizing vaccination for all those aged over 18 in the state. To a question on the Delta Plus variant, classified as a Variant of Concern (VOC), Mr Narayan said no mutant of the virus can cause harm to those people who have been vaccinated. He said vaccines are the only way forward and everyone should get inoculated.
