Tomorrow, there will be a total Bharat Bandh observed around the country from 6 AM to 4 PM.”
In order to bring the ‘Bharat Band’ in effect and ensure that life remains suspended across the country on this day, a detailed plan was formulated by the farmer unions along with their supporters. Support from more than 500 farmer organizations, 15 trade unions, political parties, six state governments and varied sections of society gathered for the Bharat Bandh.
Schools closed amid Bharat Bandh
Just a month back, various states started reopening schools amid the declining cases of the ongoing pandemic situation. However, Bharat Bandh has again put closure on schools in several states for a day. State governments of Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Punjab, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh have extended their support to the Bharat Bandh protest. Showing their support towards the farmers, the governments have also ordered the closure of schools.
However, various states such as Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, and other have decided to keep the school open. Announcing that the schools will remain open during Bharat Bandh, in a video, association president Shashikumar said that students have already missed out on classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "But the association wants to inform that we are with the farmers and express complete solidarity...," he said. To mark the support, the staffers decided to wear green-colored clothes and/or green badges.
