The 12 member committee will be headed by Dr K Kasturirangan, who was also the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of NEP, 2020. The other members of the committee are Mahesh Chandra Pant, Chancellor of NIEPA (National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration); Govind Prasad Sharma, Chairman of the National Book Trust; Prof Najma Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor of the Jamia Millia Islamia University; T V Kattimani, First Vice-Chancellor of Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh (CTUAP); Author Michel Danino; Milind Kamble, Chairperson of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Jammu; Jagbir Singh, Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab; Mathematician Manjul Bhargava; social activist M K Sridhar, Dhir Jhingran and Shankar Maruwada.

As per a statement issued by the ministry, all the National Curriculum Frameworks would also reflect upon the implications of situations such as COVID-19 Pandemic on respective areas for the future.

The Committee will finalise National Curriculum Frameworks after incorporating suggestions received from various stakeholders, i.e., states/UTs and also in the meetings of Executive Committee (EC) and General Body (GB) of the NCERT and Central Advisory Board on Education(CABE).

The tenure of the National Steering Committee will be three years from the date of its notification and the director of the NCERT will assist the SC to complete its module.
