The Gujarat Board will be mentioning 'mass promotion' on the leaving certificate of students.

The GSEB Class 10 exams 2021 have been cancelled and the students will be mass promoted to the next grade. The state board will be mentioning 'mass promotion' on the school leaving certificates of the Class 10 students. Moreover, the report cards issued to Class 10 students will say “qualified for secondary school certificate”. Till now, the leaving certificate of students who have cleared Class 10 mentioned ‘sent for SSC exam’ along with pass.

The GSEB 10th Result 2021 will likely be released by June end. students will be able to check the same through the official website of the state board.

Association President Jaiprakash Patel said, “For students seeking admission in diploma courses like polytechnic, it would be the Class 10 certificate that would remain with the child which he has to produce everywhere he goes, say even for a job. Now in case, he has secured less than passing marks but promoted due to mass promotion is to raise suspicion and questions say after 10-15 years when no one will remember such a decision of mass promotion happened due to COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, we have requested the board to review the decision of writing mass promotion in leaving certificate.”

According to the GSEB guidelines, “Those students who fail to achieve 26 marks in each subject (out of total 80) and 7 marks out of 20, they will be mass promoted. In the report card’s result column of such students ‘qualified for secondary school certificate’ will be mentioned’.”

Based on the internal evaluation of students uploaded online, the state education board will be issuing the mark sheets. As the evaluation will be done by schools themselves there will be no verification of marks by GSEB.

>Meanwhile, in order to accommodate nearly 8.57 lakh students in the wake of mass promotion for GSEB Class 10 students this year, the state government is staring at an estimated shortage of around 3,000 classrooms and nearly 6,000 teachers for Class 11 students. Going by the pass percentages of the GSEB SSC almost 3-3.5 lakh students will be admitted in Class 11 in the new academic year. We have prepared an estimate and the possibility of running classes in shifts is being worked out to adjust additional students.” Chudasama added that the exact situation would be known only once schools reopen physically," said Education Minister Bhupendra-sinh Chudasama.
