Heavy rains have forced school closures across 10+ states, postponed exams, caused flash floods in rivers like Satluj and Beas, left at least 3 dead in J&K, and prompted NDRF deployments in Himachal, J&K and Maharashtra.

Heavy monsoon rains triggered by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal and western disturbances have disrupted normal life across large parts of India, leading to school closures, college shutdowns, and exam postponements in several states.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), red, orange, and yellow alerts remain in place for more than 10 states and 50 districts, with warnings of flash floods and landslides continuing into early September.

Exams Postponed in Jammu & Kashmir; BSF Recruitment Rescheduled

JKBOSE: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) postponed Class 10 and 11 bi-annual exams scheduled for August 27–30. New dates will be announced soon on the official board website.

University of Jammu and University of Kashmir: All exams scheduled from August 28–30 were postponed due to campus closures; spot admissions were shifted to August 29.

BSF Recruitment: The Border Security Force Constable GD exam in Jammu was suspended on August 26 and rescheduled to September 3, following waterlogging at the Paloura Camp venue.

Telangana (JNTUH): While several districts saw half-day school closures, no official notification was issued on university exam postponement as of August 29. Students have been advised to check the official site for updates.

Schools Closed in Punjab, J&K, Himachal, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Karnataka and More

Jammu & Kashmir: Schools across the Jammu division and parts of Kashmir have been shut till August 30. The Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) confirmed the closure, citing landslides and red alerts in districts like Jammu, Samba and Udhampur.

Himachal Pradesh: Schools and colleges in Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla and adjoining districts were closed on August 28–29 as heavy rains washed away stretches of the Manali-Leh highway.

Punjab: All government and private schools remained closed from August 27–30 across districts including Pathankot, Gurdaspur and Sangrur, following an official state order. Classes are expected to resume on August 31.

Uttarakhand: Authorities ordered school and Anganwadi closures in Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag and nearby districts on August 28–29, after flash floods blocked key roads.

Rajasthan: Educational institutions in 15+ districts including Jaipur and Jodhpur remained closed due to waterlogging and flood-like situations.

Karnataka & Telangana: Coastal and hilly districts such as Mysuru, Shivamogga and parts of Hyderabad witnessed partial shutdowns on August 28–29, with IMD issuing orange and red alerts.

Q:   Is JK Board exam 2025 checking strict?
A:

For JKBOSE Class 10th/12th, it is considered to be strict. However, it is said that the checking done by evaluators is lenient in comparison to the checking done by them in Class 9, 11 in their schools.

Q:   When will JK Board release JKBOSE 12th date sheet 2025?
A:

JKBOSE released the JK Board date sheet 2025 for Class 12 on Dec 27, 2024. The Class 12 exams  in the state were conducted between February 15 and March 24, 2025 for soft and hard zones in pen and paper format or offline mode. Students can click here to check and download the detailed JKBOSE Class 12 date sheet 2025.  

The board released the JKBOSE 12th admit card 2025 in February. Students need to collect their admit card from their school and carry it on all exam days otherwise they will not be allowed to write the exams. Students must reach their examination centre at least half an hour before the beginning of the exams. 

Q:   When will the JKBOSE date sheet 2025 be released?
A:

The detailed subject wise JKBOSE Class 10 and 12 date sheet 2025 is now released for the October-November session exams. According to the schedule, JKBOSE 10th exams 2025 for students from the Kashmir division and winter zone areas of Jammu division will be held between November 3 and 27, 2025

was released on December 27, 2024. The Class 10th exams for soft zone were held between between Feb 15 and March 19 and JKBOSE 12th exams 2025 were held between Feb 15 and Mar 17, 2025. in pen and paper format. The hard zone exams for 10th were conducted from February 21 to March 24, 2025. Students can check the detailed JK Board date sheet 2025 on the official website- jkbose.nic.in or click on JKBOSE 10th date sheet 2025 and JKBOSE 12th date sheet 2025. 

Kerala: Schools were closed on August 28–29, coinciding with Onam holidays (Aug 27–Sep 7); IMD issued a yellow alert and extended a fishing ban till August 30.

Maharashtra: Schools in Mumbai, Thane, Ratnagiri and the Konkan belt were closed as the city recorded heavy rainfall and waterlogging in several areas.

IMD Forecast: Heavy Rain Likely Till Early September

The IMD has warned of continued heavy rainfall in north and western India till September 4, with above-normal monsoon activity expected to last till September 18. Red alerts remain active in Chamba, Kangra and Mandi (Himachal Pradesh), while orange and yellow alerts cover Jammu, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Karnataka.
