Strict Action Against Unauthorised School Books, UPMSP Issues Warning

Uttar Pradesh Board has announced strict action to ensure students get authorised and affordable textbooks on time for academic session 2026-27. The board for the first time has directed publishers to supply NCERT-based textbooks issued under its mandate directly to all 75 districts of the state.

“In previous years, delays meant authorised and low-cost books reached schools only by July, forcing students to buy expensive and unauthorised materials. To stop this, the board has taken a strict approach this year,” said board secretary Bhagwati Singh.

He warned that any publisher printing textbooks or guides before signing an official publication contract will face a three-year ban and possible legal action. Principals and teachers found using unauthorised books will also face disciplinary measures. “All schools must teach only from authorised textbooks. Any institution found using unauthorised books will face action as per the rules,” Singh added.

To avoid delays, the board began the textbook publication process in October, ahead of schedule. By April 1, 2026, markets will have 70 NCERT textbooks across 36 subjects for Classes 9 to 12, along with 12 UP Board books in Hindi, Sanskrit, and Urdu.
