Vivo has recorded an overwhelming response to the third edition of vivo Ignite, its flagship initiative that aims to empower young innovators across India. This year, the initiative has garnered over 37,000 registrations from 9,000 schools across more than 660 districts, covering over 85% of India’s total districts. The numbers mark a significant milestone, especially with 80 aspirational districts defined by NITI Aayog actively participating.
Incredible Participation from Students Nationwide
The competition, which invites students from grades 8 to 12 to submit innovative project ideas under the theme of ‘Tech for Good’, saw more than 5,600 submissions this year. These projects reflect the creativity and problem-solving capabilities of students, all aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). The theme emphasizes technology’s potential to drive social change and address global challenges.
This year’s participation is double compared to the previous edition, underscoring the growing spirit of innovation among India’s youth. Students presented ideas covering a wide range of issues, from climate change to agriculture, showcasing their commitment to finding tech-driven solutions for real-world problems.
Regional Focus: North India Leads Innovation
The North Indian region has emerged as a key hub for young innovators, contributing 41% of the total registrations. The categories of Technology, Agriculture, and Climate Change were the most popular, accounting for 38% of all submissions. This highlights a clear trend of students being deeply invested in solving pressing societal challenges using innovation and technology.
Vivo’s Commitment to Empowering Young Minds
Geetaj Channana, Head of Corporate Strategy at vivo India, expressed her excitement over the tremendous response, saying, “The response to the third edition of vivo Ignite is a powerful reflection of the growing spirit of innovation among young minds in India. In just three years, we’ve seen participation soar—from 3,000+ registrations and 1,100+ submissions in the first edition to over 37,000 registrations and more than 5,600 submissions this year. This growth speaks volumes about the increasing enthusiasm for using technology to drive social change.”
Channana also added, “This initiative is more than just a competition; it’s a movement, empowering students with the tools, mentorship, and platform needed to transform ideas into real-world solutions. We are grateful to our esteemed partners for their invaluable support in empowering these young innovators.”
Partnerships Driving Success
The success of vivo Ignite is a result of strategic partnerships with prominent organizations such as CIET-NCERT, IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation, UN Global Compact Network India, and Shooting Stars Foundation. These collaborations ensure that students receive world-class mentorship, access to advanced resources, and real-world insights to help refine and scale their projects.
Competition Structure and Stages
The competition unfolds in three stages, designed to nurture and support students at every step of their journey:
- Stage 1: Students submitted an image and brief description of their idea, which must be original and previously unrecognized. This phase concluded on February 17, 2025.
- Stage 2: The top 200 zonal winners (50 from each zone—North, South, East, West) will be announced on February 28, 2025. These students will participate in workshops and receive one-to-one mentoring. They will then submit a video explaining their prototype, with the Top 10 ideas progressing to Stage 3.
- Stage 3: The Top 10 finalists will receive further mentorship from IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation to refine their prototypes. The final prototypes will be presented at the Grand Finale scheduled for June 7-8, 2025.
Rewards and Recognition
Participants in the initiative will have the opportunity to win scholarships and rewards totaling INR 35 lakhs, providing them with the resources needed to further their education and innovation journeys.
