According to the reports released by IIT Delhi, the premier technology institute has set up this new ‘Prof Ishwar Chandra Goyal Chair’ named after Ishwar Chandra Goyal, a former professor of the physics department.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi recently established a new teaching and research Chair for the department of physics in order to commemorate former faculty. According to the reports released by IIT Delhi, the premier technology institute has set up this new ‘Prof Ishwar Chandra Goyal Chair’ named after Ishwar Chandra Goyal, a former professor of the physics department. In an official statement, IIT Delhi said, “Chairs endowed by alumni, philanthropic and corporate donations support the Institute’s ability to attract and retain high-quality academic talent.”

Professors are to be appointed to the Chairs based on their excellence in teaching, and record of research contributions to the particular field, IIT Delhi said. Talking about the new establishment, Head of Physics Department, Professor Ratnamala Chatterjee, head of department, Physics, said: “On behalf of the Physics department, I congratulate and thank Deepak and Alok for their support in establishing a Chair in the name of Prof Ishwar Chandra Goyal. Professor Goyal, a renowned and esteemed colleague in our department, was very well known as an outstanding and an extremely conscientious teacher.”

The reports suggest that Goyal’s sons and IIT Delhi alumni, Deepak Goyal and Alok Goyal set up and endowed the Chair. Meanwhile, IIT Delhi has set up a new record across the globe by making more than 50 lakh N95 masks by indigenous technology during the COVID-19 pandemic situation. The N95 mask made by IIT Delhi has been made available to lakhs of people, including all major hospitals along with more than 20 lakh foreigners.
