JMI organises webinar on 'Gandhian Thoughts and Philosophy' with California State University
As the Chief Guest of the webinar, the authorities invited Robert S Nelson, President, California State University.
In order to celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, 2020, Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI), New Delhi, on Tuesday, i.e. September 29, 2020, held a webinar on 'Gandhian Thoughts and Philosophy', in collaboration with California State University, Sacramento, USA. The official information suggests that the seminar conducted by the University was the third webinar in the series which is in sync with the University Grants Commission’s proposal to disseminate Gandhian Thought and Philosophy in intellectual circles.
As the Chief Guest of the webinar, the authorities invited Robert S Nelson, President, California State University. Professor Ajay S Singh, Department of Environmental Studies, California State University, Sacramento, USA was the main speaker who delivered a lecture on ‘Gandhi and the U.S. Environmental Movement’. JMI Vice-Chancellor Professor Najma Akhtar chaired the webinar session. During the webinar, while talking about the ideologies and ideas of Mahatama Gandhi, Professor Akhtar said Gandhi’s ideas on the environment are intimately linked with his ideas relating to the polity, economy, health, and development. The Professor further added, "the concepts of “ecology” and “environmentalism” never figured in his (Gandhi’s) writings and speeches yet he is seen as a thinker with profound ecological sensibility." Before conducting this seminar, JMI also conducted two webinars on Gandhian Thoughts and Philosophy with the University of Oxford, UK and SNU, South Korea.
Meanwhile, students aspiring to take admission to JMI must note that Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) released the official dates of the JMI Entrance Exam which will commence from October 10, 2020, onwards and will carry on until November 2020.
