Mumbai School of Economics and Public Policy to set up centre for research and teaching in finance
The centre for research and teaching in finance aims to engage with research and training modules for the industry.
Mumbai University's Mumbai School of Economics and Public Policy will soon be starting a center for research and teaching in finance. The varsity received a nod from the management council last week to set up the same. The seed money for the centre, a sum of Rs 5 crore, has been donated by former chairperson of UTI and alumnus Dr S A Dave.
The centre aims to engage with research and training modules for the industry. In a matter of few months, certificate and diploma programmes in financial economics and related fields such as data science, quantitative finance, business analytics etc, will be offered to students, said the head of department Mala Lalwani.
“Dr Dave had expressed a desire that this center develops into one of the finest research and teaching centers in finance in the country, especially given the fact that Mumbai is the financial capital of India. We are looking forward to having industry-academia collaboration and workshops apart from certificate and diplomas,” Lalwani said.
The center for research and teaching in finance will collaborate with the industry and carry out research in the financial sector.
In 2017, the autonomous department of economics was relaunched as MSEPP, along the lines of the Delhi School of Economics, to promote research and policy interventions. Since then, the school has partnered with several initiatives of the state government to implement and measure the effectiveness of government schemes.
The Delhi School of Economics, frequently called DSE, is one of India’s best academic institutions in social sciences, economics, commerce and business. It comes under the purview of the University of Delhi and enrols students through a difficult entrance test.
In addition to respective courses, the admission to all MPhil and PhD courses are conducted via a written examination and an individual interview.
