According to the teachers’ claim, they spend an average of one and a half minutes to assess an answer sheet.

Mumbai University has released a new rule for teachers. In order to improve the quality of assessment and to ensure that students do not line up for revaluation after the declaration of results, Mumbai University is for the first time has introduced a time limit for submission in the online software. According to the latest updates, the University of Mumbai has set a new rule for the teachers evaluating answer sheets. Under this rule, the teachers will now have to spend a minimum of three minutes to assess a single answer sheet.

For the upcoming final exams onwards, teachers evaluating the answer sheets will be able to submit an assessed answer sheet only after three minutes. However, the University has set no upper limit for the same. The idea behind this rule has to allow teachers to go through all the answer sheets carefully and do a quality evaluation of the same. According to the teachers’ claim, they spend an average of one and a half minutes to assess an answer sheet.

In the month of February, the director (Board of Examinations and Evaluation) or BEE, released a circular announcing a few changes made in the online software. The Board also asked colleges to download the new version of the software Trac Mark — 2.5. The teachers were informed about the changes during their training sessions in colleges by the coordinators handling the on-screen marking (OSM) process.

A teacher who attended the training session stated that every year semester around 40,000 to 50,000 students apply for revaluation and one-third of the lot clears the paper after revaluation. The modified changes in the software and new rules will surely improve the quality of assessment by ensuring that teachers spend enough time assessing papers and do not make careless mistakes. However, she also stated that it does have drawbacks of its own. Confirming the new rule and modifications Vinod Patil, director (BEE) stated that the software has been modified to improve assessment quality.
