The government is mulling cancelling the Delhi Nursery Admissions 2021-22 as schools have remained closed for the year.

The Delhi Government is mulling scrapping nursery admissions for the 2021-22 academic session. It is also considering two batches of nursery and kindergarten in 2022-23. The guidelines for Nursery admissions are usually released by November. This year, however, schools said there has been no discussion on the process so far due to COVID-19.

According to a senior official, schools can admit students in both nursery and kindergarten for the 2022-23 academic session, as there will be vacancies in both grades.

This year, the batches for nursery that commenced in April was shifted online. With the nursery and kindergarten being important for a child’s learning and developmental needs, it was imperative for them to attend classes. The official further added that it was not fair to students or parents.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the Delhi schools may not reopen before July 2021. Delhi Deputy CM and Education Minister Manish Sisodia has told media portals that there were no plans to reopen the schools as yet. The last official release regarding the same was when the Delhi Government stated that schools would remain closed till December 31.

Talking about the vaccination, he stated that even if they start vaccinating people by February, they will only be able to vaccinate a sizeable chunk by July. "There is no possibility of reopening schools before that. We also have to look at how examinations will be conducted without putting everyone at risk,” he added. He further said, "Considering the unpredictable nature of the COVID-19 virus, the youngest children will be the last to go to school in any case. In such a situation, to have another set of young children whose entire academic year will be online is a little unfair to them as well as to their parents.”
