Centre handles most of the expenses of the National Capital and that is why the Delhi government shows less expenditure in their budget, Education Minister Dharmedra Pradhan during a press conference. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding the upgradation of 10 lakh schools across India and not just 14,500 finally has a reaction from the centre.

Pradhan, during the conference, said that the enrolment ratio in Delhi government schools has decreased since Aam Admi Party came to power in the National Capital. The minister further added that AAP promised 500 Model Schools in the state, however, in the span of 7-8 years, Kejriwal government has opened just 63 schools.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved PM SHRI Schools (PM ScHools for Rising India) on September 7. This will be a new scheme for the development of more than 14500 schools across the country as PM SHRI Schools by strengthening select existing schools being managed by Central Government/ State/ UT Government/ local bodies.

Calling PM’s move to upgrade 14,500 schools “Very Good”, the minister has stated that there are nearly 10 lakh government school in India and it will take hundreds of years to fix all of them.

“My letter to the Prime Minister. He announced upgrading 14,500 schools, very good. But there are 10 lakh government schools in the country. In this way, it will take more than a hundred years to fix all the schools. You are requested to make a plan to fix all one million schools together,” said Arvin Kejriwal in a tweet posted from his official Twitter handle.

The letter came a day after the Prime Minister announced the development and upgradation of 14,500 schools across India under the Pradhan Mantri Schools For Rising India (PM-SHRI) Yojana. “These will become model schools which will encapsulate the full spirit of NEP,” PM Modi said in a series of tweets.

The Prime Minister said the PM-SHRI schools will have a modern, transformational and holistic method of imparting education. “(They will) Emphasise on a discovery oriented, learning-centric way of teaching. “Focus will also be on modern infra including latest technology, smart classrooms, sports and more,” PM Modi said.
