All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) said that it acknowledges the UDAAN project of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay for technical book writing scheme.
IIT Bombay’s UDAAN project led by professor Ganesh Ramakrishnan from IIT Bombay aims to provide a novel end-to-end machine translation framework that includes extensive use of lexical resources and a post-editing platform.
“UDAAN team helped immensely in speeding up the process of translation of technical books. Their work is based on continuous research work resulting in faster turn-around time for correcting errors and fine-tuning the translation models in a low-resource setting,” the AICTE said in a statement.
The statement further read, “IIT Bombay is sincerely trying to continuously upgrade and upkeep UDAAN platform based on valuable inputs from AICTE, coordinators and translators/reviewers for translation work of technical books into different Indian regional languages.”
Calendar for Engineering Book Discussion in Indian languages
The AICTE recently launched a calendar for AICTE’s outcome-based engineering book discussion for undergraduate and diploma level books in different Indian languages. The launch of Engineering Book Discussion calendar is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The launch ensures NEP 2020’s vision to make technical education accessible in Indian mother tongues. The first series of AICTE discussions kicked off on November 29 and will go on until January 31, 2023. The council recently launched books written in Marathi language for diploma and undergraduate engineering courses. The initiative is in line with the AICTE’s philosophy of imparting technical education in Indian languages by introducing books in 12 local languages — Hindi, Marathi, Telegu, Odia, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Urdu, Malayalam and Assamese.
