AICTE's decision to give BTech admission without JEE, OJEE receives mixed response
In order to take admission, candidates must have Physics, Maths and Chemistry as their subjects in Plus 2. Students with at least 45 per cent aggregate in these subjects will be considered eligible for admission in engineering colleges.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) decided to allow students who have not appeared for the OJEE or JEE to take admission in BTech courses on the basis of entry-level qualification and prescribed eligibility criteria. However, the decision has received a mixed response from students. While a section of students believe that the decision will help those who could not turn up for the engineering entrance exam due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some believe that it will belittle the standard of the course. While some called it βan unfavourable decisionβ, there are many who believes that the decision would save a year of many students.
Besides, educationists believe that repeated revision in the admission process is not a good sign. They further added that proper modalities should be fixed for the admission of students after completion of the OJEE counselling. In order to take admission, candidates must have Physics, Maths and Chemistry as their subjects in Plus 2. Students with at least 45 per cent aggregate in these subjects will be considered eligible for admission in engineering colleges.
Meanwhile, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi aims to become much more comprehensive by scaling up the IoE (institute of eminence) system. According to the media reports, one of the eminent institutes of India is on the mission of becoming a comprehensive university and even admit students from outside the joint entrance exam (JEE) system for some new streams of education such as bachelor of design.
