The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has urged the heads of institutions to offer online courses available on the SWAYAM platform and also do credit transfers adopted by AICTE on the pattern of UGC Online Regulations.

The AICTE has issued a fresh notification for online courses to all institutions in accordance with the AICTE (Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through SWAYAM) Regulation during the upcoming semester January 2023 and credit transfers up to 40% of the total courses. SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) Platform has been developed by the Ministry of Education, Government of India in association with AICTE.

The enrolment for these credit courses would start from the 2nd week of January 2023 and the date of registration for examination would be notified later.

In its letter to the Vice Chancellors of all Universities and directors and principals, AICTE has stated that to achieve three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz. access, equity & quality. It facilitated the hosting of all online courses to be accessed by anyone, anywhere at any time and is capable of hosting 2000 courses and 80000 hours of learning: covering school/vocational, undergraduate, post-graduate, engineering, law and other professional courses.

The University Grants Commission notified the UGC (Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through SWAYAMJ Regulations,202I in March 2021 which facilitated an institution to allow credit transfer up to 40% of the total courses being offered by any higher education institution in a particular programme in a semester through online learning courses on SWAYAM platform.

AICTE has also adopted the credit transfers up to 40% on UGC pattern in continuation of AICTE (Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through SWAYAM) Regulation and has already requested all Universities / Colleges, from time to time, to allow credit transfers up to 40% of the total courses being offered in a semester through SWAYAM and also to encourage the students of their Institutes /Colleges to take advantage of online programme Courses and learning materials through SWAYAM Platform and utilise Credit Transfer facility of SWAYAM as much as possible.
