GGSIPU Introduces BTech in Metrology, Admission through JEE Main from 2026
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mahesh Verma announced a new B.Tech in Metrology programme from the next academic session on September 4, during the teacher's day celebration at IPU Dwarka campus. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Venu Gopal Achanta, Director of CSIR–National Physical Laboratory. Admission to the course will be offered through JEE Mains and is developed in collaboration with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), focusing on measurement science and precision engineering.
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) will offer BTech in Metrology from the next academic session. Admission to this newly introduced course will be based on the JEE Main scores rather than the university’s entrance test, IPU CET. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria will have to apply on the university’s official website, ipu.ac.in. The announcement on launching the new BTech metrology was made by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mahesh Verma during the Teachers’ Day programme organised at Dwarka campus on September 4. Dr. Venu Gopal Achanta, Director of CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
It was further stated that IP University plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in this regard. A detailed notification on the eligibility criteria and admission process will be released later. For those who wish to pursue BTech in metrology, the science of measurement, the news is of great relief, ensuring students do not have to prepare for multiple exams.
During the programme, Vice-Chancellor Prof (Dr) Mahesh Verma emphasised the importance of metrology by saying, “This field forms the backbone of innovation and industrial growth.” The new programme is aimed at attracting bright minds interested in technologies that drive precision, quality, and competitiveness in India’s engineering landscape.
What does this mean for future aspirants?
This new BTech in Metrology opens doors for students who are interested in precision engineering and measurement sciences required for manufacturing, research, and quality assurance. Admission to this B.Tech programme will be done through the national-level JEE Mains exam. Students will not have to prepare for the IPU CET exam. However, the admission will be done through the university’s centralised counselling process. Interested candidates must keep an eye on the eligibility and admission documents for BTech in Metrology at IPU.
NIT Trichy is a government university and the admission to this university is based on merit and entrance exam scores. The accepted entrance exams are JEE Main. Candidates must give as many mock tests as possible for admission through the JEE Main exam. Do check the JEE Main exam pattern, and attempt as many JEE Main questions papers as possible. For particular score related details candidates must visit the official website or can even check the JEE Main College Predictor.
The participating institutes of JEE Main are the colleges that participate in the JoSAA counselling for admission in various Engineering, Architecture and Planning courses. Besides JEE Main participating institutes, many colleges offer admission based on the scores of JEE Main but are not a part of JoSAA. Such institutes organise their counselling process for admission.
There are a total of 31 NITs, 25 IIITs and 19 other GFTIs that participate in JoSAA counselling. The number of seats in these institutes can be checked below. Other institutes which offer admission based on JEE Main scores are from the states which do not conduct their entrance exams for engineering admission and include U.P., Bihar, M.P., Delhi, among others.
