Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a major expansion in India's education and skilling sector, including the addition of 75,000 new MBBS seats over the next five years, the upgrade of 1,000 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), and the introduction of 10,000 research fellowships at IITs and IISc.
Addressing the Post-Budget Webinar on Employment, he emphasized that these initiatives are part of the government's broader vision to enhance education, research, and skill development in alignment with global standards.
Highlighting the transformative impact of the National Education Policy (NEP), PM Modi stated that India's education system is undergoing a significant overhaul after decades. He pointed out that digital initiatives, including AI-driven education, the digitization of textbooks in 22 Indian languages, and the expansion of telemedicine in Primary Health Centres, will further strengthen accessibility and quality in education and healthcare.
PM Modi also stressed the importance of fostering industry-academia collaboration to equip students with industry-relevant skills. He urged educational institutions and businesses to work together to create more opportunities for students under initiatives such as the PM-Internship Scheme. The governmentβs focus on deep-tech research and AI-driven solutions was further emphasized, with a βΉ1 lakh crore corpus fund being set up to boost research, particularly in emerging fields like artificial intelligence and deep technology.
In addition, the Prime Minister highlighted the role of the Gyan Bharatam Mission in preserving Indiaβs rich manuscript heritage by digitizing over one crore manuscripts. He called upon all stakeholders to actively contribute to these initiatives, ensuring that the benefits of budgetary announcements reach the maximum number of people and drive India's progress towards becoming a global leader in education, research, and innovation.
