IIT Kanpur: Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has approved establishment of a dedicated Department of Statistics and Data Science. This decision reflects institute’s focus on advancing data-driven research and helping skilled professionals for emerging industries.

This newly created department builds on IIT Kanpur’s contributions to statistics, probability and quantitative sciences. Over years, IIT Kanpur’s Statistics and Probability Group has developed academic and research ecosystem, offering undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes along with supporting interdisciplinary research across multiple fields.

Department of Statistics and Data Science will continue to offer its existing academic programmes

• BS-MS in Statistics and Data Science

• MSc in Statistics

• PhD in Statistics

As per IIT Kanpur, this department aims to become centre of excellence in Statistics and Data Science. It will help in collaborations with engineering, science, management, healthcare and public policy streams. The institute expects new department to play an important role in producing highly trained professionals and researchers who can contribute to India's rapidly growing data economy.
