IIT Madras Collaborates with Energy Systems Catapult UK

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and its Energy Consortium have partnered with Energy Systems Catapult (ESC), UK, to collaborate on energy innovation and sustainability. This partnership aims to foster cross-border knowledge exchange, applied research, and the commercialisation of clean energy technologies. The collaboration aims to facilitate joint innovation programs in key areas such as renewable energy, smart grids, energy storage, electric mobility, green hydrogen, and sustainable maritime solutions including green ports.

It will also support policy and regulatory innovation through joint workshops and studies tailored to the energy landscapes of both India and the UK. Additionally, the MoU will provide Indian startups and researchers with enhanced access to global innovation networks, leveraging ESC’s strong ties with UK Catapult centres and funding platforms.

IIT Madras was represented by Prof. Manu Santhanam, Dean of ICSR, Prof. Satya Seshadri, Faculty Head of the Energy Consortium, and Nikhil Tambe, CEO of the Energy Consortium. Representing Energy Systems Catapult UK was Brendan O'Neill, Advisor for Innovator Support and International Engagement. The event also saw the presence of Ms. Babita Sharma, Senior Net Zero Advisor at the British High Commission in New Delhi.

Prof. Satya Seshadri, Faculty Head, The Energy Consortium, IIT Madras, said, “The Energy Consortium was founded with a clear mission, to accelerate the translation of cutting-edge research into scalable, real-world energy solutions. Our vision is to build a dynamic and collaborative ecosystem that brings together academia, industry, and policymakers to address the most pressing energy challenges of our time. We are particularly focused on fostering international partnerships that enhance innovation and knowledge exchange, while aligning with India’s broader sustainability goals.”

Looking forward to this collaboration, Brendan O’Neill, Advisor- Innovator Support and International, Energy Systems Catapult UK, said, “The collaboration between Energy Systems Catapult and The Energy Consortium IIT Madras, as signified by the MoU signing, will unlock solutions to key challenges in the decarbonisation of energy and transport systems in the UK, Tamil Nadu and India. Bringing together academia, industry, and innovators from both countries to share knowledge and seek out new ways to collaborate.”

IIT Madras Placement Procedure
Attendance and Punctuality A student who applies and gets shortlisted for interviews has to go through the entire selection process unless rejected midway by the company.
Any student who withdraws deliberately in the middle of a selection process will be disallowed from placement for the rest of the academic year.
Latecomers for GD/ Aptitude Test/ Interview will not be allowed to appear for the selection process.
Discipline Students should maintain discipline and show ethical behaviour during the entire placement process.
Students found cheating or misbehaving in the selection process (Test/ GD/ Interview) will be disallowed to appear for placements in the entire academic year.
